Yo! Busy, busy, busy! The year is drawing to a close and I guess marketers are pulling out all stops to ensure they finish their conference calendars (and budgets) for the year. This week sees Microsoft TechEd taking place in Bangalore - I am speaking in the entrepreneur track and in the women's track. This is a hallowed brand for tech marketers and so am tickled to be part of it. I'm in Mumbai next week moderating a panel on Consumer Truths for Mindshare Brand Equity Compass. Then on Wednesday, the 28th March, there is an "In the Phone Booth" telenar session with TiE Mumbai On the topic of events, we're in the process of putting together an events calendar too - our next program is the Great Indian Marketing Summit, on Saturday, May 5th in Chennai. The theme is practical marketing that impacts revenue and profits, and each session will be on a specific area that can be directly linked to business. It's ideal for marketers, CEOs and COOs who are interested in boosting their marketing effectiveness. Attendees will leave with a marketing plan template and a clear idea of how to allocate budgets across the various elements, and measure ROI. Tickets are priced at Rs 3500+taxes - email aarti.deoskar@paulwriter.com to register. I'm really excited to announce the dates for The Futurist CMO - that's on August 23 & 24, at The Westin, Gurgaon. Last year over 100 CMOs joined us to make this an exciting conversation, and we're looking to recreate the energy this year. Do get in touch to see how you can get involved - as a participant, discussion leader, sponsor. We're also working on a series of CMO breakfasts - will keep you posted on how that shapes up, and do ping us if you're interested in participating. Have a great week!

Warlords, Fizzy Drinks and Dynamic Storytelling
|
By Hilton Barbour
| |
Unless you've spent the last 2 weeks living in a cave, the belly of a whale or entirely off-the-grid your social inbox has likely been carpet bombed by the righteous outrage of folks regarding Joseph Kony and the Lords Army.
The creators of this phenomenon, Invisible Children, have also unfortunately evoked a tidal wave of criticism, accusations of over-simplification and promoting slacktivism. I'm not close enough to comment.
But...having garnered over 65 million views on YouTube, there must be something we can learn from them. Something about how they told their story we could re-use?
Invisible Children is merely the latest global example of dynamic storytelling. Their success indicative of what happens when your story touches a deep cord.
Big brands get this too. When I worked with Nokia they often talked about the power of stories and mythology in connecting consumers and brands. Coca-Cola is another strong advocate of dynamic storytelling.
So how might you bring dynamic storytelling to your audiences?

How to Use Sound Reputation Management to Respond to Negative Feedback
|
By Wayne English - Content Marketing Institute

Wondering what you should do if someone places an an unflattering comment online about you, your business, or your organization?
Take heart, there is a lot you can do, and here is a DIY piece on how.
Surprisingly, your first move is to do nothing. At least, not immediately. Never address comments when you're angry. In the heat of the moment, you may make an emotional response, which will only make things worse.
After you've had a bit of time to collect your thoughts and get your emotions in check, though, there are a few steps you should start with, to prepare a proper response.
Get the best way to tackle this here...

| | My South by Southwest Interactive (SXSWi) experience began on the "nerdbird" - the flight from San Francisco to Austin. At high altitude and in even higher amplitude, the techies sitting a row behind me were speed-outsmarting each other, jumping from database mining, the UX challenge of creating a human-friendly pixel resolution, the myth of interferences for avionics, to the "stupid-smart Nathans" in their lives (sorry, guys, it was hard not to eavesdrop).
I first listened with intrigue (because these guys were really, really smart, and I might as well just transcribe their conversation into a comprehensive SXSW summary post), but after a while I began to resist the unsolicited expertise, and browsing through the conference program I couldn't help but think of my two favorite session titles this year: "Co-Founder Speed Dating" and "The Evolution of the Douchebag in Modern Cinema." Giving up on my way-too-thin headphones, I craved an enclave that would offer asylum from the forced intimacy of all the power-chatter, a simple switch-off that would disconnect me from verbal deluge and provides some kind of digital refuge from the very human analogue conversation. With all the new services that enable 'controlled serendipity,' it seems ironic that social filtering assumes we constantly want to meet people. I wanted to un-meet. Now. And there was no app for that.
