Maharanis of Marketing - An International Women's Day Special
|
By Paul Writer
| |
Each year around the world, International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Thousands of events occur not just on this day but throughout March to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women.
Not wanting to be left behind on such an important occasion, Paul Writer wants to use this opportunity to recognize our very own 'Maharanis of Marketing'. This recognition goes beyond logic and reasoning, though it goes without saying that these women are successful in their field and have achieved a lot in a short span. We want to crown these special women simply because they are special to us. Each one has been a successful marketer and contributed to the profession in a unique way, adding to the list of extraordinary accomplishments by women in India.
We have our list and we now urge you to add to it your 'favourite' Queen of marketing. This could be someone you have known, worked with or just admire for the extraordinary work they have done. There are only two criterion - one it's gotta be a lady and two she should be a successful marketer in India. Let the coronation ceremony begin...

The Week - Leaps and no bounds

By Nikita Doval

A key chapter of the great Indian economy success story has been the rise of first-generation entrepreneurs, who grabbed opportunities in an open economy. Although there is no clear-cut data regarding the growth of entrepreneurship in India, the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2003 report stated that 12.5 per cent of the total Indian population was involved in opportunity-based ventures.
The freedom to pursue the kind of work you want and the thrill of creating and building something on your own are the driving factors for most entrepreneurs. Sometimes, added to these is the feeling that further growth is unlikely in your corporate job, as in the case of Jessie Paul, who, at 35, was appointed chief marketing officer at Wipro. Paul's next goal was to become CEO by 40, but she knew that would be difficult at Wipro. "Because of my marketing background, IT firms were not an option and most marketing firms are small," says Paul. She then decided it was time for her own venture. It took two years of preparation, soft networking, advice gathering and plenty of business plans before she started Paul Writer, a marketing advisory firm based in Bangalore. "I want to be associated with marketing in India," she says. "If someone wants marketing, then ours is the name they should first think of," says the IIM Calcutta graduate.

Marketing Automation, Analytics Big B2B Trends for 2012
|
by Gary Kim - Content Marketing Institute
| |
After interviewing some 200 brand marketers and executives from 10 agencies that work with business-to-business clients, Jeff Ernst, Forrester Research analyst concludes that marketing automation and analytics, mobile devices, and content marketing will be big trends in 2012.
For some, those developments will come as no surprise. The requirement to justify marketing spend by demonstrating return on investment is simply a requirement for B2B marketing executives, hence the heightened emphasis on analytics that offer insight into the revenue implications of marketing activities.
But Ernst also says sales automation tools will be a big emphasis as well, at least in part because the effectiveness of cold calling, email blasts and other outbound marketing activities arguably has declined.
