| Paul Writer's Marketing Booster Shot |

Yo!
Just back from an amazing session at TiE Coimbatore. Living in Bangalore I guess I've not really noticed the transformation of smaller cities like Coimbatore. But they have a swish airport, 4 swanky hotels, malls and yet just a 10 minute commute to any place! Even better was the chance to interact with entrepreneurs driving businesses in engineering, manufacturing and education, including innovations like an electric scooter. This week we have an interview with David Alston, CMO of Radian6, a pioneer in social media listening tools. For those who are just dipping their toes in the murky waters of social media his words of advice are reassuring - it is ok to just listen initially, you'll jump in and engage when you're ready. As I mentioned last week we're knowledge partners for IBM's Connect program (March 1, Mumbai) which seeks to recognize marketers who use technology for business. Get involved by answering this 5 min/5 question poll on technology for marketing. You could be in the first ever Marketing & IT Recognition Hot 50 (M.IT.R - Hot 50) Tomorrow is the Republic Day of India - Jai Hind! And on 27th Paul Writer turns two - woohoo!

|
By Lisa Petrilli

"People truly, genuinely, in their heart of hearts want to help other people. You should never doubt this, no matter what you need help with in business or how vulnerable it makes you feel to ask for help!"
The golden rule of networking: you should absolutely always be looking for ways to help others without expecting anything in return, and then when you do need to ask for help people are much more likely to make the effort to help you.

Economic Times: Crowd Sourcing: Companies Tapping this via Internet to Solve Business Problems
|
|
by Bhanu Pande - ET Bureau
| |
In 2010, when India's central bank decided to create a symbol for the rupee, instead of asking a design house, it asked, well, everyone . The Reserve Bank of India invited the public to post their designs on its website. It received 3,000 designs, from which it chose the design of Udaya Kumar, an IIT student. While that was a rare outreach by a government arm, it's a routine exercise for the $82.6 billion Proctor & Gamble (P&G ).
It's called 'crowd-sourcing' , and it involves the outsourcing of a function once performed only by employees to the public.
Jessie Paul says the world is shifting towards informal labour networks and India will follow. "As more work can be done remotely and digitally, the need for these digital equivalents of temping firms will only rise."
"This works equally well for small and large businesses," says Paul. "It gives them access to talented people they probably could not afford or retain on a full-time basis," she adds.
