As I write we have now had two beautiful days!!  We can tell recital is now just around the corner!!  With that in mind this newsletter will include all you need to know for the upcoming weeks and recital!  Remember our last official day of classes will be Saturday June 18.  With that in mind please do your best to have dancers here for the remainder of their classes.

Thank you all for helping to make ticket day run as smooth as possible!!  Remember, we will have tickets available up until show time.  However, tickets purchased the week of recital will be cash only.

Thank you so much for a great year!!  It is so hard to believe that it is already complete!!

Class Mothers still needed

We are still in need of class mothers for the following classes.  Monday PSII 4:00, Tuesday PSI 10:15, Wed PSII 9:45, Thursday PreBallet I 6:45, Friday Intro to Hip Hop 4:45.  If you are wiling to help out please let us know.  If you have already purchased a ticket for yourself we will reimburse you for that ticket.

Reminder:  for those moms already signed up- we do have a meeting scheduled for Friday June 3 at 7pm.  No worries if you cannot make that day we will have all of your information available after that meeting.

T-Shirt Pick Up

If you ordered a t-shirt you will be able to pick it up at the front of the auditorium at dress rehearsal.  We will have a few extra that we ordered-so, if you were unable to order you may see what is available at that time as well.

Directions and Parking Lowell Memorial Auditorium

In this day of google directions and GPS I thought it would make the most sense to provide you with the address-if you would like printed directions they are available in the office.

Lowell Memorial Auditorium

50 East Merrimack St

Lowell, Mass 01852

***Please, please leave yourself some extra time

Parking is available on street, across the street is a parking lot for a small fee as well as behind the auditorium at Saints Memorial Hospital.

Dress Rehearsal Procedure

At this time you should have in your possession a dress rehearsal schedule which indicates the time your dancer will be on the stage to perform (if you need assistance with finding your class please let us know).  We ask that you arrive with your dancer ready: in costume, hair done and make up (refer below for what is appropriate) and report to assigned dressing room (this was also listed on the rehearsal schedule-you will report to the same one for show day) no less than 20 minutes ahead of time.

Please note: we would like one female (preferably the one dropping off for show) to bring dancers to the dressing room.  Bringing others adds to confusion.

When it is your dancers class time to rehearse they will be brought to the stage by their class mother and rehearse until the dancers and teachers are comfortable.  Note: this could be 1 time or 10 depending on the situation.

Important!!:  If you are not already familiar with the class mom please be sure to introduce yourself.  Also, this is the time to discuss costume changes with the moms.

Once they have completed their dance they will be brought back to the dressing room where you will pick them up-you are done for today!

Makeup for stage (female dancers only)

We ask that all female dancers wear makeup at dress rehearsal and recital as stage lights will white out faces.  In a perfect world your dancer will have the following...eye shadow (purples or browns-no blue or green), eye liner, blush, mascara and lipstick-red shades/wine shades are best.  For our younger dancers this can be difficult so attempt to at minimum have blush and lipstick.

Remember:  take as many pictures and videos this day as you would like.  There is absolutely no photography of any type-including on cell phones etc during the recital.

Picture Pick Up: Today is the day you are able to look at and purchase any pictures taken at Picture Day.  Donner Photographic will be in the lobby of the auditorium during dress rehearsals.

Recital Procedure

The day of recital is a bit different than the experience at dress rehearsal.  There are many more bodies arriving and dressing rooms now have all of the dancers present at the same time.  To keep any confusion to a minimum please be sure to read the following.

****Please note: new this year-only dancers in PSI, PSII, Kindercombo and any dancer in level I and II that has already performed and will not perform in Act II will be in the junior finale-a list will be posted***all other dancers will be in the finale

Act I Performers: (those who perform before intermission-unsure check with performance order):  will report to their dressing rooms 30 minutes before showtime.  Only one female will be allowed into dressing room with your dancer and we will ask that once your dancer is settled with the class mom that you find your seat to enjoy the show.  Dancers will remain with their class until intermission at which time you can pick them up (see below for PSI dancers).  For dancers in Dressing room A and B (this will be our younger dancers) you will be given a pick up ticket that will be shown to security when you pick up your dancer at intermission.  Dancers will be able to watch the show from the balcony when not performing.

PSI dancers:  because this group are our youngest dancers we will have parents pick them up after they have performed and sit on your lap to watch until 4 numbers before intermission at which time you bring them to the dressing room to meet their class mom to be in the junior finale!! Please: when getting up to retrieve your dancer be sure to do so between dances.

Act II Performers: (groups that perform after intermission) should report to their dressing room before the show so that they can watch in the balcony-please have your dancer in costume and they can touch up etc during intermission.  If you have chosen to have your dancer sit with you during the first act or for whatever reason they will not be with this class until intermission (ie: in another class first) please let the class mom know.  After your dancer has performed they will watch in the balcony until after the finale at the end of the show.

Combined Class Rehearsals

Reminder: The following classes are part of either a production or combined number.  Therefore, it is necessary that we find a time that the classes can work together.  Please do your best to have your dancers here.  At this time each group has already had one rehearsal.

Recital video forms are now available at the studio.  Forms must be mailed to Donner or handed in at dress rehearsal to us at the ticket and Tshirt desk or directly to the Donner reps on recital day.  The deadline for ordering without incurring a $10 late fee is Saturday June 25 (recital day).

Costume Changes

If your dancer is in more than one number in the same Act (before or after intermission) you can either meet them in their dressing room to help them change or a better idea would be to have the class mom help them change if able.  Either way please talk to the class mom about this when dropping off you dancer. Also, please be sure to let class moms know if your dancer will report to them after another dance.

*****Dancers with quick changes-a quick change is 4 or less numbers:  these dancers will be changed backstage so we will ask you to bring your dancer's costume to the backstage crew prior to the show.  Please be sure that their costume is labelled and the crew knows how their hair etc should be***

We are truly excited about all of our new summer offerings.  Along with 5 weeks of classes we will be offering 3 options to our younger dancers for camps along with our popular Dance Intensive.  Camps are filling fast - don't miss out!!

Featured Family

Meet the Simons Family!

(Bill, Cheryl, Taylor, Cameron, Max-the cat, and Stanley-the dog)

Our daughter Taylor (10) started at Melissa Hoffman in 2004 when she was 3 years old and immediately loved it.  At the time, her class was on Saturdays so driving up to Hudson from Bedford, MA was no problem.  You might ask, "Why travel so far for dance classes?"  There are a couple of reasons; one being that her cousins and best friends, Erika and Livi also dance at MHDC and live in Hudson.  Another is the quality of instruction that MHDC offers.  Of course there are many dance studios closer to home, but after looking into a few of them, they just didn't compare.

When not dancing, Taylor loves hanging out with her friends and cousins, creating "fairy houses" in the yard, and reading.  She has been known to finish lengthy chapter books in a matter of days!

Taylor has a younger brother, Cameron (7) who has spent many a night in the MHDC lobby, much to his chagrin.  He is currently working toward his orange belt and learning to use nunchucks in karate.  At home he can often be found in the middle of his mountain of Legos or playing outside.

During the week, Bill gets the kids ready for school and then goes to work as a Geologist.  At night and on the weekends he turns into a hockey player/internet surfer/handyman/landscaper.  It seems there is always a home improvement project in the works at our house.

I work as the Office Manager of a daycare center four days a week.  The rest of my time is spent picking up and driving the kids around, exercising, digital scrapbooking, reading or working on Sudoku puzzles.

Together, the four of us love movie nights, day trips to the beach or places we've never been, and spending time with extended family.

Date to Remember-Tuesday June 21

On Tuesday June 21 we will hold registration night 6-8pm for our fall classes.  Register this night and receive free registration.  Class schedules will be available by June 10 for you to get an idea of what classes are being recommended.  ***New This Year: online registration.  We will let you know when we have gone live and you can register your child online.
