****As noted in our September newsletter-we will be holding our annual Bring a Friend Week in the Spring****
In The News
Melissa Hoffman Dance Center is extremely proud to announce that we have been officially notified that we have now exceeded $100,000 donated to the Make a Wish of New Hampshire.  Fifteen years ago I realized that the dancers could do something great by doing something they love!!  And, giving to other children made so much sense.  Each year in the month of February as close to Valentine's day as possible, our dance companies along with dancers 6 and up that would like to commit to a few rehearsals get the opportunity to perform.  With the money raised for the performance as well as a raffle bigger than I have ever seen, we are able to raise $5-$10,000 a year.  It is definitely our favorite day of the year!!  It is also heart warming to see some of the children who have benefited by having a wish granted.  Mark your calendars for February 6th!
Featured Family of the Month
It appears that noone wanted to be the first featured family from MHDC.  So, I thought I would take this opportunity to tell you a bit about mine.  I reside in Londonderry with four great kids!  I have 2 dancing daughters-Jillian who is 12 ( the current Junior Miss Dance of New England)is a 7th grader at LMS and Jaclyn who is in her first year of college at Columbia University in NYC.  Though we miss her we are so happy for all the great opportunities she is having while there!

I also have 2 terrific sons!  Joshua is an 8th grader at LMS and plays soccer, Lacrosse and is working on his next belt in karate.  Jonathan will soon be 16-you know what that means...we are spending a lot of time driving!! When not doing our own thing we find we have our most fun whereever there is water!!  Be it the pool, a lake or the ocean.  The boys are always happy with a fishing pole in hand!!

So there you have it-the Hoffman Family!  Hoping you will now tell us about yours!!  Remember to submit by the 5th of each month to be featured!

In the News: ....Another new section of our newsletter.  Tell us of anything exciting happening for your dancer or family so we can share it with everyone!
Face Painting October 25-30
Probably the most popular week of the year here at MHDC!  In each of our classes we will be taking time at the end of class to paint faces or hands of our dancers 8 and under (class average).  If your dancer does not want to be painted please let the instructor know.
Peek Week
During the week of Monday November 15-Saturday November 20 we will be holding our annual Peek Week.  This is an opporunity to see your dancers class in full.  Be sure to bring your cameras!!  A couple of things to note about Peek Week..

-your dancers may act differently with a room full of people-this is normal
-teachers will make general corrections, but tend not to single out any dancer while there is a full room-can be embarassing to the dancer
-though we welcome younger siblings we do ask they you do not allow them to wander about the dance room
-above all-enjoy the class!!
Costume Deposits due November 15-20

During the same week as Peek Week costume deposits will be due for our annual performance on Saturday June 25.  Planning for recital is much like planning a wedding, but for hundreds of bridesmaids and groomsmen.  Costume orders must be placed early to guarantee on time delivery.

Although recital participation is not required it is a time a year our dancers young and old (the 3 year olds are the hit!) can't wait for!  If you or your dancer chooses not to participate please let our office know.

A deposit of $60 is due for each class your dancer participates in.  This will not include any technique classes (for those who take multiple ballets please make one deposit at this time and we will determine which classes perform), music theatre, lyric and Parent/Tot (these classes do not perform in the recital).

The following classes will not require a deposit as we will put costumes together at a later date.  Hip Hop 11+, Hip Hop 13+, Adv Hip Hop, Hip Hop 10-12, any pointe.

Please be watching your email as we will be sending recital forms separately.  Please note:  we cannot order a costume without a deposit.

Featured Teacher: Deana Corlis
Each month we will feature one of faculty members.  We hope you enjoy getting to know each one a little better.  In her own words- Deana Corlis

When Melissa asked the staff to write a little "blurb" about ourselves to help parents learn a little bit about our lives outside the studio, I had to chuckle because for over half of my life has been spent living  at the studio!  I have been a part of the Melissa Hoffman family in various capacities since I was sixteen years old (and without revealing my current age, lets just say --that is a loooong time)!  I grew up dancing, but it wasn't until I joined Melissa's team here that I discovered that the heart and soul of a true dancer cannot be found in the rhythm of their step, but rather in the rhythm of their life. One of the greatest rewards of teaching here has been watching each dancer discover her own gift, and being there to celebrate each milestone along the way.  These milestones are not the ones marked by medals or crowns, but simply the ones that help each student find their own path and make the most of their own talents and abilities.  Yes, I have the reputation as the hard-core teacher, always pushing my students to be the best, but I guess this is my opportunity to tell them that they ARE the best--as long as they remain true to themselves!

Aside from my studio life, I am the proud Mama of two wonderful girls that make each day an adventure.  Both of my girls have been a part of the MHDC family since they were born and continue to amaze me with their achievements and abilities both in and out of the dancing world.  It is both humbling and refreshing to see myself through their eyes, and I often find myself wanting to freeze time as these precious years go by far too quickly!

As for my passions outside of my family and the studio, I am embarrassed to admit that my daily escapes are fairly simple:  I am addicted to reality tv and secretly long to be one of the next "Housewives"  (oops, secret's out!)and I use every spare minute to either clean my house, workout or cut coupons, (sad, but true)!  If only I could find a way to incorporate all three into one fun-filled activity!

All in all, my life is filled to the brim but I wouldn't have it any other way!
