mayflowerBCIU Coordinates Mayflower Exhibition
The Central Bucks School District is the first of several Bucks County school districts to host the "Mayflower, The Two Penns, and PA History" exhibit, sponsored by the The Bucks County Intermediate Unit in collaboration with the John Lloyd Huck Foundation. 
Dr. David Leslie-Hughes, representing the John Lloyd Huck Foundation, presented to the Central Bucks school board on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, detailing an extensive history of William Penn and his journey to Pennsylvania.  To read more click here.......

BCIU Supports Palisades as a Pennsylvania Model School District
The Pennsylvania Department of Education has selected the Palisades School District as one of  9 Model School Districts in the Commonwealth.  During the 2011-12 school year, Palisades staff and Dr. Eddie Frasca-Stuart will participate in several workshops and courses led by Dr. Grant Wiggins, nationally known author of Understanding by Design and Schooling by Design, as an element of the BCIU's District Support Team work.  
On November 29, Eddie Frasca-Stuart and JoAnn Perotti participated in a workshop in the Palisades School District led by Dr. Wiggins.  On December 4-6, Eddie participated in the Model School District workshops with Palisades staff and Dr. Wiggins at the SAS Institute in Hershey.  Eddie is scheduled to present a "Learning Brain" workshop to Palisades teachers in January.

March 28, 2012 The PA High School Computer Fair
This is an annual event that highlights Pennsylvania high school students' application skills and computer knowledge.  Students are able to unleash their creativity, learn how to convey information more dynamically, and enhance the learning process.  Pennsylvania students in grades 9 - 12 are eligible to compete in the following categories: Animation; Computer Fair Logo; Digital Movie; Graphic Design; Programming; and Web Page Design. 2012 - Youth in the Arts Concert and Competition -- Theme: Gratitude

 

The 2012 Youth in the Arts Competition highlighting Young Composers, Artists and Poets is underway with new changes: eligibility is now open for Grades 1-3 and a fourth eligibility category for students with learning differences has been added. All students in Grades 1-12 are now invited to participate. The 2012 Theme is Gratitude. For more information, click here. 
Professional Learning Opportunites         Concentration Program in Autism Spectrum Disorder.        
Autism RibbonThe Bucks County Intermediate Unit, in partnership with LaSalle University, is still accepting applications for the concentration program in Autism Spectrum Disorder.  This program is offered at a significant tuition reduction of over 25% at $460 per credit.  In order to learn more about this program, please click HERE.

The BCIU's Reading Apprenticeship 3-Day Workshop is being held on January 24, January 25, and February 9, 2012 at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit.  Reading Apprenticeship (RA) is a framework for middle school and secondary school educators, which focuses on improving adolescent literacy across content areas.  It helps students become stronger readers. Grant Corner                         Teacher Grant Opportunities                                                     
The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids & United Health Foundation are offering mini-grants of $500-1,000 for Kick Butts Day, when youth organize and participate in events across the United States encouraging their peers to stay tobacco-free and educating their communities about the dangers of tobacco.  Deadline is 1/27/12, click here.

Fuel Up to Play 60, the free in-school nutrition and physical activity program, is currently accepting applications for its nationwide, competitive funding initiative for schools enrolled in the in-school wellness program. Grants of $4,000 are available and the deadline for applications is 2/1/12. Click here for more information.

Student Achievement grants are available from The NEA Foundation.  Nickelodeon Big Help Grants offer up to $5,000 for K-8 public school educators dedicated to environmental awareness, health and wellness, students' right to a quality public education, and/or active community involvement.  The deadline is 2/1/12.  Whats Happening at the BCIU!

The SAIL House
The SAIL House Program combines Community Services, Job Skills and authentic instruction and practice of basic life skills within a house that is owned by the Council Rock School District and sits adjacent to the Goodnoe Elementary School. This IU programs for students between the ages of 18 and 21 years who are functioning at a Life Skills level.
