Wow, it's already November. It's hard to believe that it's three months into the school year and winter break is almost upon us. As each administrator settles into the school year, communication with staff should remain the number one priority for safety success. For our customers, they rely on PublicSchoolWORKS's (PSW) to manage much of the safety communication and to make it easy and open between administration, teachers and staff.
Good communication doesn't need to be laborious or complicated. By integrating PublicSchoolWORKS' Staff Safety Reporting Systems, the notification, tracking and documentation of all safety reports is managed, both those resulting in injury and damage to district property and those reports that do not result in injury or damage. By early notification of safety concerns, administrators can get a jump on on their prevention and putting controls in place, thus reducing the district's risk of more serious issues.
As reports are submitted from anyone on staff, the system immediately notifies and mobilizes key administrators to address each safety concern. It could be as simple as a teacher sighting a pest and reporting the issue. In turn the system notifies the appropriate person to get involved and tracks the report to completion to ensure that each safety concern is addressed and auto-notifies the submitter of the report resolution.
Let PublicSchoolWORKS take the guesswork out of task tracking and
follow-up.

A new safety trend in Kentucky districts is the use of pictometry to create a more detailed overview of classrooms and roadways that surround the school. The pictures are taken of every room, doorway, closet and bathroom and then loaded into software giving administrators or county officials a 360-degree view of the school and its surroundings.
The thought is the school system will be able keep tabs on locations that before had remained unseen and could be potential trouble spots in the case of fires or other emergencies. The system operates similar to Google Earth. Ohio County Schools are working with their emergency management system to use pictometry to access locations after disasters or to find new bus routes.

Youth Violence Statistics | |
Recently published youth violence statistics make the case for implementing PublicSchoolWORKS' Student Bullying and Violence Reporting System today.
- Nearly one million high school students in America take a weapon to school at least once every 30 days**
- 81% of school attackers tell someone of their plans beforehand^^^
- 1.3 million high school students are threatened or injured with a weapon on school property at least once every year**
- The attack on Columbine students lasted more than 2 hours. Most school incidents don't last more than 20 minutes. You need to be prepared and act fast.^^
- 83% of students said they would report an attacker if they knew they could do it anonymously ~~
- There is no accurate profile for a 'school shooter'^^
- In 2/3 of youth violence situations the attackers felt persecuted, bullied, threatened, attacked or injured by another prior to the incident^^
- In a study of high school students, 1/3 were definitely considering suicide. Only 25% had told an adult~~
