Review of our First Annual Conference, Training Seminar & Exhibition
This special event was held on October 24 - 27, 2010 at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina. There was a great turn out for the networking and expert panel discussion with over 80 people present during these two days; the defective drywall training seminar certified twenty-two individuals. The expert panel discussions were videoed and are currently being edited and formatted for posting to the website in segments for easy viewing. We anticipate that this will be available before the end of November. The bibliographies of the experts are already posted to the site on the homepage. Additionally, the presentations and handouts are being collected and will be posted to the website as well.
Below are just a few comments received from those attending the First Annual events; these comments seemed to embody the overall reaction the participants experienced.
"As always, a lot of good information was shared and connections made by quality attendees and speakers." -
Howard Ehrsam, Founder, Chinese Drywall Screening.
"I applaud you for the high attention to detail and overall quality and flow of the information. I was also impressed with the level of quality attendees, presenters, and vendors. The bottom line is [BESI] did an excellent job. I enjoyed it and benefited in gained knowledge and friendship." - Dennis Rose, Technical Director, Total Wall, Inc.
"You were correct, the information was priceless. I can't thank you and your host of speakers enough for the good things I came away with." - Paul Talley, Roman Construction, Inc.
Thank you all for making this event a tremendous success and we look forward to 2011 being even better.

Institute News
The Institute has begun planning for 2011, "A Year of Increased Depth and Growth". Depth will be obtained through the development of more programs offered both in the traditional classroom and on-line; which will include certification courses, informative seminars, and credits for re-certification (RCs or CEUs).
In turn, the development of these new courses and certification programs will increase the institute's recognition within the construction industry as a premier training institute; and therefore grow the membership base at the individual and organizational levels.
New Courses Offered in 2011 - The institute is in the process of developing new courses for Building Envelope Inspector (Levels 1, 2, & 3) and Consultant that will be available next year. The process was delayed this year due to high demand for the defective drywall training certification seminar. These are just a few of the new course that will be offered in 2011. X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Analyzer - Gypsum Products. The certification course is for anyone who is currently using or intends to use the hand-held XRF analyzer to perform inspections and/or clearance testing for structures with Defective Drywall. You will be provided with in depth training which with give you the confidence and knowledge to properly utilize the XRF analyzer. Current members receive a discount.
A new class will be scheduled for the beginning of the new year, if interested in attending this class please contact the institute to register now. You will be notified of the date and location at the end of December. Re-certification Credits - The Institute (BESI) will continue to renew with the American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) as a provider for re-certification credits (RCs) for the two-day National Training & Certification Seminar on "Chinese" or Defective Drywall in America. Recertification credits (RCs) are granted at the rate of one (1) credit per contact hour of continuing education or professional development; the course offered by BESI was accepted for 16 RCs and has to be renewed for each class date. If you have any questions regarding the re-certification credits, please contact the institute.

Technology Corner
The institute continues to look into new technology that will help professionals in the construction industry and its members.
The ODOROX hydroxyl generating system is a new, green technology and is the most advanced solution for eliminating odors, decontaminating surfaces and purifying the air. Hydroxyls (OH) are safe, naturally occurring molecules that are created in our atmosphere when the sun's ultraviolet rays react with water vapor. They play a critical role in cleaning the earth's atmosphere and are often referred to as the "detergent" of the atmosphere. They can be used to kill bacteria, viruses and mold, and to break down volatile organic compounds (VOCs), chemical fumes, gases, vapors and unpleasant odors. Through the use of patented UV technology, ODOROX replicates the natural production of hydroxyls to completely eliminate biological and chemical contaminants. For more information visit their website.
