The First Annual Event for the Institute is an excellent opportunity for Sponsors and Exhibitors to reach out to professionals in the construction industry. Now is the time to get involved in an institute that is positioned to become the construction industry's premier educational institute.
Reception and networking will be held on Sunday, October 24, 2010 in the evening for members (current & new), sponsors, exhibitors, and guests.
The topics for discussion on Monday, October 25, 2010 will include the following panels:
1. Inspections, tools (i.e. XRF), markings, techniques
2. Chemical and scientific analysis of the problem and issues 3. Health effects pertaining to defective drywall
4. Remediation, protocols, partial remediation, clearance testing 5. Resale, stigma, warranties, realtor's concerns, buying & selling
6. Legal issues, preservation of evidence
Each of the six (6) sessions will have atleast three (3) expert panel members that will address the issue pertaining to there session. Several of the expert panel members have been confirmed, however, some spots are still pending final comfirmation. When all the panelist have been confirmed they will be announced in a special edition of the newsletter. We anticipate that the anouncement will come in about one week. Institute News
Re-certification Credits - The Institute (BESI) is now registered with the American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) as a provider for re-certification credits (RCs) for the two-day National Training & Certification Seminar on "Chinese" or Defective Drywall in America being offered on October 26-27, 2010.
Recertification credits (RCs) are granted at the rate of one (1) credit per contact hour of continuing education or professional development; the course offered by BESI has been accepted for 16 RCs and is listed on the ACAC website (Registration #10092301).
If you have any questions regarding the re-certification credits, please contact the institute.
New Certificate Program - X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Analyzer training will be conducted during this training seminar. This certification course is for anyone who is currently using or intends to use the hand-held XRF analyzer to perform inspections and/or clearance testing for structures with Defective Drywall. You will be provided with in depth training which with give you the confidence and knowledge to properly utilize the XRF analyzer. Current members receive a discount for this course.
Jack Frost, of Drywall Science, LLC helped develop this certificate program and will be the instructor at this training.

Technology Corner
The institute continues to look into new technology that will help professionals in the construction industry and its members.
GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) oversees the GREENGUARD Certification Program which provides indoor building products that minimize and control harmful effects of moisture, mold or indoor pollutants. There are four (4) certification programs: GREENGUARD INdoor Air Quality Certified, GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certified, GREENGUARD Premier Certified, and GREENGUARD Building Construction Certified. The description for these programs may be found on their website.
All the products are monitored quarterly for quality control and compliance, and require annual re-certification. There is a free online guide.

Committee News
First, the institute would like to congratulate Shawn Macomber for becoming our first Education Committee Chairperson. We are looking forward to the development of a strong education committee that will help the institute grow and serve our current members better.
More committees are being formed and the institute is looking for individuals interested in
being an active participant in the growth of the institute and in those interested in becoming a qualified instructor.
Some of the committees include: education, public relations, marketing, membership, research, resource, and technical. Additionally, the institute is looking for individuals or companies that would like to assist in producing materials for new courses.
