Institute News
New Policy - The Institute has implemented a policy for applicants desiring certification which requires notification if they have been convicted of a felony in the last ten (10) years. Additionally, all members certified through the institute are subject to criminal background checks; this includes current members. All certified members of the institute should receive an email with a form to fill out as it pertains to this new policy and it will be added to their membership file.
The institute does not believe this will be a problem for its members since most are licensed in their respective state(s), and the state requires criminal background checks.
If you have any questions regarding criminal background checks, please contact the institute.
New Certificate Program -
X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Analyzer training will be conducted during
this training seminar. This certification course is for anyone who is currently using or
intends to use the hand-held XRF analyzer to perform inspections and/or
clearance testing for structures with Defective Drywall. You will be
provided with in depth training which with give you the confidence and
knowledge to properly utilize the XRF analyzer.
Jack Frost, of Drywall Science, LLC helped develop this certificate program and is the training instructor for the online course videos.
Defective Drywall Clearance Warranty - For additional information about the clearance warranty being provided by National Construction Warranty Corporation you can visit their website.
Xactware / Xactimate - Many of our members recognize this estimating software; replacement cost estimating for the insurance repair industry. They recently created a new category of line items that specifically deal with Hazardous Materials Remediation (HMR) which includes careful removal & bagging of damaged/affected materials, additional labor rates, containment barriers, filtration, PPE and hazardous waste containers to name a few. Check out their website for information.

Technology Corner
The institute continues to look into
new technology that will help professionals in the construction industry and its members.
Chinese Drywall Integrated Solutions (CDIS) is pleased
to offer to all BESI members a searchable data base, in which you can target
market your services to the Chinese drywall property owners directly. The database provides property owner's name and property addresses, which are fully searchable by city, state and zip code. To really focus on your market, a large portion of the data can even narrow the property address to what type of drywall is in the home (i.e. Knauf). Once you enter your desired field, the addresses will be displayed with a Google map depicting each location. In addition, the addresses can be exported into a mail merge program of your choice.CDIS offers single and multiple user memberships. The membership gives you unlimited searches and address downloads. BESI members will receive a $250 discount and three (3) months added to the annual membership (15-month membership). Multiple users will receive a $500 discount and three (3) months added to the annual membership (15-month membership).Chinese Drywall Integrated Solutions monitors all 37 states known to have reported cases of defective "Chinese" drywall, their database is being updated monthly to reflect this data. For more information contact Tim Zorc directly at (772) 633-2004 or by email at tim@cdisnow.com.
