Fundraiser to save High Park Zoo!
City Council recently adopted a change to the budget that will require the City to find alternative funding sources in order to continue to operate the High Park Zoo beyond June of 2012.
The zoo, which costs approximately $200,000 per year to operate, was slated to closeduring the 2012 city budget process as part of city-wide cost-cutting measures.
High Park Zoo has been around for over 112 years, it survived two world wars and the Great Depression. How can we close it now for $200,000?"
To save it, sustainable funding is needed from individuals, corporations and local businesses.
The Zoo's domestic and exotic animals offer both enjoyment and educational opportunities for people of all ages. The Zoo's 50 animal residents include bison, llamas, peacocks, reindeer, highland cattle, sheep, yaks, emus, ducks, wallabies and capybara.
