MNLA PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD:
KURT BLUEMEL, President of Kurt Bluemel, Inc.
Maryland Nursery & Landscape Association recognized Kurt Bluemel at the Mid-Atlantic Nursery Tradeshow for his Professional Acheivement in the art in science of horticulture.
Since 1931, MNLA's mission has been
to promote the use of ornamental plants,
products, and services.
Kurt Bluemel has been a shining example of that mission since his arrival in the country.
Founded in 1964, Kurt Bluemel, Inc. is now the premier nursery grower and supplier of ornamental grasses, bamboo, perennials, ferns, sedges, rushes and other exotic nursery plant materials.
Founded on the principles of fine gardening and landscape design, the nursery evolved over the decades to meet his own needs as a designer but the needs of other designers and architects as they evolved their designs for the new American landscape. Mr. Bluemel has brought countless plants into the new market through selection or introduction, patent-free, over a span of many years. The original contracting division provided residential and commercial landscape services throughout the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan region, Northeast, and across the United States and now, the nursery has been serving that very same area with exceptional, rare and native plants.

Kurt Bluemel is an award-winnning plantsman and is acknowledged by the industry as one of the founding fathers of the "ornamental grass movement." As such, Mr. Bluemel, is frequently called upon, worldwide by horticulture societies, universities, and botanical gardens to lecture at Fortune 500 companies, zoo and park commissions and residential owners for expert horticultural consultation, landscape and habitat creation.
As a former president, board and/or chairman of at least 5 of the industy's leading societies including the American Horticulture Society, the Perennial Plant Association, and the International Hardy Plant Union to name a few, Mr. Bluemel has always supported his community and the efforts of the MNLA.
Mr. Bluemel is grateful to receive the MNLA Professional Achievement Award and would like to thank the community of MNLA members and voters who bestowed the honor to him in order to recognize his life-long passion for the art & science of horticulture and landscape design.
