Always use gloves when handling fertilizer. The nitrogen in the fertilizer can cause a chemical burn, and it especially hurts if you have even the smallest cut or scrape. Don't forget to read the instructions on the fertilizer each and every time you apply. Gutter StuffFor those windy, rainy days ahead of us prepare your gutters by placing "Gutter Stuff" foam into them. It's a great product that makes it easy and quick to clean your gutters. Ask an associate to show you how they work. |

Stop and Smell the Roses..... | |
"Stop and smell the roses...." as some people would say, but in fact some roses have no scent whereas some are heavily scented; it just depends on what they are crossed with when they breed.
Roses come in different heights and flower size according to the type of roses. Here is a run down on some of the more popular types:
- Miniature Rose: Flowers are about 1 inch diameter and tend to be in clusters with height around 18 inches.
- Polyanthus: Flowers are small and clustered on stems and are about the height of 2 feet.
- Floribunda: Flowers are slightly smaller than Hybrid Tea Roses, tend to be in clusters, and are about 3 feet in height.
- Hybrid Tea: These are very popular as cut roses. These roses are large and more single stemmed with height around 4 to 5 feet.
- Grandiflora: Flowers are large and are clustered on stems. These roses have shorter stems than Hybrid teas, are 6 foot and taller in height.
A few quick tips for the care to your roses to make sure you will
be able to "stop and smell" your roses at their very best.
- Feed your roses starting in February since root growth starts before leaf growth.
- If you haven't already you can still prune your roses.
- If you have tree roses make sure you check their wooden stakes each spring to make sure they have not rotted at the base. Winds can be cruel in spring, so protect the bases of your tree roses.
If you are looking for a new rose color or scent for your garden we have a large selection to choose from and now is the prime rose planting season.
