Hot August days and the desire for a vibrant yard could mean a large consumption of water. Here are a few ideas to help conserve water and even enhance your yard.
*Water at night or early morning hours to
reduce evaporation.
*When watering with a hose end sprinkler,
use an auto shut off timer to eliminate
over watering.
*Drip irrigation is a great way to target water to where it is needed
and can be easily adjusted as your watering needs change.
*Add products like gypsum or Monterey's Perc-o-late Plus to your
regular yard maintenance. This can help loosen soil for better
water penetration and less water run off.
*Fertilizing your lawn, trees and bushes regularly helps them to be
more efficient at using available water. A larger root base absorbs
water and nutrients better.
*Adding mulch and bark is a great way to hold in moisture and
enhance the look of your flower beds.
*As the weather cools, adjust your sprinkler timer to run less time.
Many sprinkler timers have a % adjustment feature to
automatically reduce all sprinkler stations for appropriate watering
run times.
*Sweeping sidewalks, patios, and driveways with a broom. Uses no
water, electricity, or gas and and gives you a little workout and
burns calories. Clever?
