The World of Work
|
Most people you know work. It's how we fill our time, meet people, and secure the income to provide the necessities and the futures we feel we "need".
Can you recall when you started working at your first job? You were probably shown your work station and introduced to your co-workers. If you're lucky you might have had an orientation helping you better understand the organization and the benefit plan.
BUT, were you asked what you're passionate about, what would be a motivator for you, or what you might bring to the team? Possibly not!
Regardless, today we know the average person stays in a job from 1 1/2 to 2 years. If you are the manager or the employer you might want your new hire to accomplish things quickly. By having an understanding (from both sides) of what's needed, the job may be done within that time frame. Below are a few questions you can ask your prospective employee to have a better insight: - What are you so passionate about that you'd do it for free?
- If our organization wanted to thank you for a job well done, how would that look?
- What will you do to build our team?
By asking these 3 simple questions you may just help the new employee, your organization, and yourself! |
What's In It for Me?
|
You have all listened to that great radio station, WIFM (What's In It for Me?). All of us, at one time or another wonder what's in it for me - yes we should be thinking of others. But that isn't always at the forefront of our mind.
It's been a long, long winter - so let's think about what's in it for our staff after this long sojourn. Perhaps you might consider:
- Have a potluck (outside if possible)
- Give everyone a ½ day off to enjoy the sunshine and warmth.
- Bring in ice-cream cones to announce summer!
It doesn't have to be much - just show "you care". |
