News Roundup from HBF
YEAR-END RESULTS FOR 2011
Thanks to the great efforts of our HBF volunteers, sponsors, companies and supporters, the HBF completed 33 projects in 2011.
These projects involved the construction of ramps, widening of door frames, bathroom remodels, flooring replacements, and installation of grab bars and handrails all in an effort to help people continue living in their homes with freedom and dignity.
The HBF paid out $25,721 for these projects. However, due to generous donations of time, labor and supplies, the total retail value of these projects were estimated at $245,691. That translates to a ratio of $1 spent in HBF funding equalling $9.55 in retail value.
INAUGURAL BLITZ BUILD IS HUGE SUCCESS
In early October, members of metro Denver's homebuilding industry - building professionals, suppliers and volunteers - gathered in three days to build seven ramps at seven homes across the Denver metro area. After receiving applications from candidates throughout the metro area, the HBF selected seven deserving families to be a part of its first ever Blitz Build. In those three consecutive days, a new ramp was built for each recipient, giving them greater access in and out of their homes.
Thanks to the generosity of many individuals and companies this event was made possible. We appreciate the following companies which provided builder captains free of charge to oversee the ramp projects: Aspen Basement Company, Bella Villa Builders (two ramps), Alpine Lumber, CR Gardner, ProBuild and Van Dyk Construction.
All additional labor was donated and included support from the builder captain's companies, Godden Sudik Architects, the Praise Church Mens group and many individual volunteers. All in all, more than 40 volunteers helped thoughout the three-day blitz.
Decking was supplied free of charge from OrePac on six ramps
and Van Dyk Construction on one project. Lumber was donated
by Builders Enterprise, Strait Lumber and Denver Lumber and screws for all seven projects were donated by BlueLinx.
The HBF spent less than $1,100 to complete the seven ramps which normally would have retailed at more than $17,000.
A HUGE thank you to all who helped make this happen! We hope
to continue this event in years to come.
