Monarch Companies and Accessible Systems Step Up for Elizabeth White

Elizabeth White

Elizabeth White

Thanks to the cooperative efforts of Monarch Companies and Accessible Systems, 11-year-old Elizabeth White, Lakewood, can enjoy a better quality of life in her own home.

Elizabeth has Cerebral Palsy. Her mother, Lucinda, had to carry her up and down the stairs of their tri-level home.  Now that she's older and taller, the daily chores of lifting and bathing became more difficult.

After the Home Builders Foundation assessed and approved the family's needs, Monarch Companies and Accessible Systems stepped up to help out.

The scope of work required a bathroom remodel, installation of a stairglide and a front door ramp remodel. The value of labor and materials totaled nearly $30,000. The Home Builders Foundation contributed $3,300 for costs; the remainder was donated.

Paige Lentz, president of Monarch Companies and her staff took the lead on the bathroom remodel by widening doors, installing a roll-in shower, and replaced a vanity with a pedestal sink; while Accessible Systems graciously provided the installation of the stairglide. Lentz also serves as president-elect of the Home Builders Foundation.

OTHER PROJECTS UNDERWAY

Another six family projects are in various stages of completion to provide accessibility which includes the building of two ramps and the remodeling of three bathrooms.

If you know of someone who needs this kind of assistance have them contact the Home Builders Foundation for an application.
