The Falcon Art Community annual Holiday Show

Holiday Card
Clockwise from top left: Carrie Iverson, Jeremy Moore, David Abel, Kelly McCarty, Erin Galvez, Tony Furtado, Nathaniel Praska, Samir Khurshid, Kelly McCarty

The Falcon Art Community opens its doors on December 3rd for our annual holiday show.  This year's show will focus on getting patrons into the individual artist's studios to see their current bodies of work, purchase work directly from the artists, hear the sounds of Falcon musicians, view artists' work in progress, enjoy light refreshments and interact with the artists in their work environments.  Come visit what Portland Art Net calls "the most successful new attempt at artist live/work space in Portland."  This will also be the public's first chance to view the two latest additions to the Falcon Art Community's permanent collection-master paintings by Martin Wittfooth and Brad Kunkle.

Some highlights of the show:

Samir Khurshid shows his latest paintings, a series of portraits accompanied by exotic birds.  He has four new paintings in this series and plans to complete some larger canvases soon.

Nathaniel Praska has been focusing on figurative work for the past few months, particularly nudes.  He will exhibit pastel drawings and three new oil paintings.

Kelly McCarty will show his recent Sky series, along with smaller paintings offered for below $200.

Jerry Dickason will present recent oil and watercolor paintings.

Jeremy Moore, an illustrator who lives at the Falcon, will show two new oil paintings.

Displaying an assortment of paintings and mixed media from the past year including a few new pieces, Natalie Sept's recent body of work focuses on portraiture of manual laborers in Portland, currently dishwashers and bussers from restaurants.

Erin Galvez will display new and in-progress acrylic and collage works on paper and canvas that she is preparing for a January show.  Be the first to see them!

Clay rabbits breed like mad in the studio of Tony Furtado, who will also display recent clay works integrating animals and architecture using his unique metal surface coatings.

William Seiji Marsh, guitarist for the Cherry Poppin' Daddies and Tony Furtado will play sets throughout the event to entertain guests.  There may be a special appearance by Tony's wife Stephanie Schneiderman.  Other Falcon Musicians will have CDs and merchandise for sale.

Rare book seller David Abel of Passages Bookstore will display for sale his collection of fine and rare books.

Portland Artist Clinic will also open their doors and will be offering blood pressure checks and 15 minute chair massages, as well as healthy snacks and a raffle for a complete treatment & other prizes.  Meet the doctors and find out more about their low-cost services for artists.

Brian Wannamaker visits Copro Gallery's Dark Water show, curated by Martin Wittfooth

Brad Kunkle,
Brad Kunkle, "Reclamation"

Brian Wanamaker attended the Dark Water show at Copro Gallery in Bergamot Station in Santa Monica on Saturday November 12th.  Curated by rising art star Martin Wittfooth, the show concentrated on figurative work by some of the nation's most remarkable young painters, including Adam Miller and Alexandra Pacula, whose works are featured in the Falcon Art Community's permanent collection.  Wannamaker then had the opportunity to spend the week touring up the California coast with a group of remarkable people and painters from the show to develop connections with them. Aside from building friendships, Brian Wannamaker and the Falcon Art Community are proud to announce the addition of two amazing paintings to our permanent collection: Sebastian by Martin Wittfooth, and Reclamation by Brad Kunkle. The new paintings should be on display during the upcoming Holiday show on December 3rd from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Holcombe Waller in "Surfacing" at BodyVox Theatre

Falcon Artist: Holcombe Waller

The BodyVox Theater (1201 NW 17th Avenue, Portland, OR), $12-26

"Surfacing" is an all-sung performance weaving together story-telling, theater and immersive video projections. Inhabiting an emcee-like role and toeing the divide between realism and fantasy, Holcombe retells the intriguing testimonies of living characters who view the world as theirs to shape. These stories take the audience on a journey through time and place, invoking subjects as far reaching as Catholic beautification, anarchist communist revolution, health care activism and the history-in-the-remaking of contemporary performance art. All of these stories converge to explore the ephemeral, transforming and constructed organization of society.
