Holmes Center Welcomes Minneapolis High School Students for 3-Week Entrepreneurship Bootcamp
This June, the
University of Minnesota launched a new summer program designed to introduce the
basics of entrepreneurship to Minneapolis high school students. Throughout this
three-week camp at the Carlson School, 21 Minneapolis high school students
engaged in active learning sessions covering business fundamentals and entrepreneurship, with particular

Alvenda Wins, ManCave Impresses
Software startup Alvenda took overall honors at the 5th annual Minnesota Cup competition, but student winner ManCave won over the audience at the final awards reception on September 10th. Senior Nick Beste's new concept for the first-ever in-home parties targeting men has drawn widespread publicity and strong initial progress.

Entrepreneurship Club Hosts U-FEST
Undergraduate entrepreneurship students organized a "state-fair-like" experience on Coffman plaza to welcome back students and generate more than $20,000 in sponsorships that will fund club activities for the entire year. Started by Carlson School entrepreneurship students Kevin Carlow and Nick Beste in 2008, U-FEST was organized and staffed entirely by members of the Entrepreneurship Club. The largest student organization at the Carlson School, the Entrepreneurship Club welcomes lively discussion from Minnesota's leading entrepreneurs twice each week throughout the school year.

Ronning Named 2009 Entrepreneur of Year
Joel Ronning received the University of Minnesota's Entrepreneur of the Year award at the Minnesota Cup final awards reception. Ronning accepted the award "on behalf of the associates at Digital River. I want to thank our
associates, who are among the best and brightest people that I have
worked with and some of our state's finest entrepreneurs." Full press release.

Corson Receives Outstanding Achievement Award
Judy Corson ('65 BA) was honored at a reception at the Carlson School on September 2nd, in advance of receiving the University of Minnesota's highest alumni honor. President Bruininks noted Judy's servant leadership qualities and years of dedicated service to the University and the Twin Cities community. Corson currently serves as chair of the advisory board for the Holmes Center and co-founded Custom Research Inc. in 1974. Judy received the award on September 24th along with fellow alumns Bruce Richard and Chuck Osborne at the Carlson School Honors Dinner.

Mallin to Speak at Carlson School Conference
Serial entrepreneur Dan Mallin ('95 CEMBA) will keynote this year's Carlson School Conference and Reunion on October 9th, speaking on "Leveraging the Digital Revolution in Our New Economy". For nearly 20 years, Dan has established a track record of creating, growing and transforming businesses through his roles at both large and small businesses, including those in technology services, sales, marketing and business development. Presently, Mallin is Managing Director of Magnet360, where he provides strategy and advisory services to a range of entrepreneurial and growth companies. He also provides leadership for the Minnesota Cup as a way to give back to the community and in October will receive the University of Minnesota's Alumni Service Award for his contributions to the University and the community.
