NGUMBA AND VOMA AS PART OF BALI-NYONGA CULTURE
By Dr Gahlia Gwangwa'a

Voma is a cult society and its role is defined by the Fon and the Voma elders. Their access to Voma Cult is by hereditary.

Voma has two main responsibilities or modus operandi. Voma members under the leadership of Gwanvoma supervise and ensure the sustenance of the traditional spiritual wellness of Bali-Nyonga.

Voma protects Bali-Nyonga from evil spirits and/or some other diabolic acts that may hatch or brew in/or around Bali-Nyonga.  If there are vibes of their presence, or not they, Voma will still cleanse Bali-Nyonga boundaries with their traditional supernatural powers every year.

More coming up in the new BCA-USA redesigned website!!!

CHAPTER SPOTLIGHT: THE CAROLINAS CHAPTER
From the Awards Committee

For most BCA USA members, the thought of starting a chapter where none exists is quite overwhelming. The main concern and fear being that the group may not have enough members to start a chapter. The Carolinas Chapter should serve as an inspiration. Even though only nine prospective members met at the very first meeting in April of this year, they didn't lose sight of the long term vision. They knew it would be a rough road to travel but they held on. By developing and implementing a strategic plan to increase awareness about the chapter in the region, membership has grown steadily over the summer months.

The Awards Committee will like to recognize The Carolinas Chapter for their determination to start a new chapter, their commitment to set the pace, and their unwavering support and dedication to the BCA USA goals and vision. The birth of a new chapter signifies growth within the national association. The committee welcomes the creation of the new chapter and congratulates its pioneer executive for taking on the leadership of the young chapter. For standing strong despite uncertainties and for holding on even when all seemed hopeless, we proudly recognize their determination and dedication and hope that it will inspire the formation of other chapters. Even when the prospect of creating a chapter seems farfetched, take the challenge today and start a chapter where none exists.

BCA-USA ALMANAC
From the Publications Committee

The publications committee is soon going to the printing press for the bca-usa almanac. We have compiled pictures (most of them having to do with historical sites in Bali); we need a few more pictures that are representative of us enough in terms of our traditional outfits, our dance(s) etc. We have a pool of pictures, and will love to draw from an even larger pool in a bit to find the very best that we have in our repertoires as individuals and as a group. To this end, we encourage you send us picture(s) you have that capture(s ) any segment of our association (be it a ndahkum, a committee like the culture committee or an executive of any ndahkum, or one that captures an engaging mood during one of our convention's cultural evening tunes. Please send them to us as soon as you can.

Please send to publications@bca-usa.org.

Thank you in advance,
Ni Victor Gomia
Chair of Publications Committee.
