6th Grade Social Studies - The American Presidents
The students in sixth grade Social Studies have completed their four step, long-term projects for the year! Students were given a choice of five projects from which to choose. Please come see their creative and informative projects on display in the front foyer, across from the library!

1st Grade Young Authors Tea
This week, parents of both Ms. Sheinberg's and Ms. Reese's 1st grade classes gathered with their children for a tea! The purpose was to show how much the students' skills have evolved since the beginning of the school year.
From Ms. Sheinberg:
"The children show growth over time as I put work out from the beginning of the year that I saved. It is a celebration of the writing process, using their newly acquired writing skills as well as developing creative expression. In a first grader's school life, the growth is amazing and the proof is in the application of skills-and of course the reading and writing connection."

5th Grade Rat Dissection
As 5th grader in Mr. Rocca's class finish their unit on ecosystems, students have been discussing different biomes and the wildlife that inhabit them. To better understand how certain animals live in their biomes, they dissected a rat and explored its anatomy and adaptations. The students were able to identify the rat's claws, teeth, and muscles as adaptations that allow it to better hunt and survive. The students also identified many of the rat's internal systems, including the circulatory, digestive, and respiratory systems.

The Rabbi Levi A. Olan Lecture
'How the Sabbath Works': Sabbath as a day of meaning and hope
Tuesday, March 27, Pollman Hall
7 p.m. Dessert and coffee, 7:30 p.m. Lecture
On the seventh day, as everyone knows, we are supposed to rest. So what does it mean to ask how the Sabbath works? Judith Shulevitz takes an ancient religious institution and unpacks it to show what it can do for us and what thoughts it is meant to help us think, whether we're observant or not. The social and political lessons of the Sabbath are for everyone who feels that daily life in the modern world has become painfully hectic and disjointed. Judith Shulevitz is a cultural critic and award-winning magazine editor whose book The Sabbath World: Glimpses of a Different Order of Time has been widely acclaimed. She helped to start both Slate and Lingua Franca, and has been a writer for The New York Times Book Review, The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine and The New Republic. The author's book, The Sabbath World: Glimpses of a Different Order of Time will be available for purchase ($15.00). RSVP is appreciated. If you have questions, please contact Nancy Rivin at nrivin@tedallas.org or 214.706.0000, ext. 155
