Rabbi Posen Headshot I Would if I Could

This past October, the worldwide Jewish community let out a sigh of relief. One of our own was reunited with his family, and regardless of our individual political leanings, many Jews around the world felt collectively complete again. The release and return of Gilad Shalit was a combination of moments of celebration, moments of outrage at the deal, and thoughtful discussions on what it means to return to your home after so much time away. Imagine what it must be like to go from terror to love, from solitude to a fury of media attention.

And, more!!

As part of our Standards and Benchmarks curriculum in Jewish Studies, we have the goal of exploring the narrative of the Bible within its own context as well as finding meaning in the narrative for our lives today.  One way in which we do this is through giving a D'var Torah. Earlier this year, I offered middle school students the opportunity to write and present a D'var Torah of their own during services.  Sophia Fineberg, 6th grade, prepared and gave the D'var Torah at the Board meeting last evening and in middle school tefillot this morning.  Enjoy a double dose of Torah this week!

Here are this week's Parashah Trivia questions:

Va'era:
1. What did God tell Moshe he would use to bring the Israelites out of Egypt?

2. What was unusual about the plague of hail?

Answers to last week's trivia questions:

Shemot:
1. What were the names of the Hebrew women who delivered the Israelite babies? Shifra and Puah
2. What did God tell Moshe to do while he spoke to him at the burning bush?
Take of his shoes because this is a holy place.
