Mie Student of the Month
I began taking Bikram Yoga class last August. After my very first class, I fell in love with the Yoga. Bikram was different from the many other forms of exercise that I had tried in the past. I didn't need any athletic ability to be good at it. For me, it was about practicing the postures, breathing, and meditation. I felt that it was something that I could enjoy doing for a long time. Initially, I practiced three times a week just to give myself a break from my everyday stress. After several weeks, I was hooked! I was so eager to practice and master the postures and breathing. Soon, I found myself taking class everyday. I knew about the 60 Day Challenge program, but I was not sure about attempting it. I started by spending the first three weeks practicing everyday just to get used to the rigor and routine. I then became more confident. After three weeks, I would place a sticker on my daily practice chart, and this is when my 60 Day Challenge really began! 30 days into it my body began shaping up and my friends began to notice and comment on it. At the end of the 60 Day Challenge, the pain in my knee had lessened and my chronic back pain was hardly there. Looking back now, I recognize that although there were hardships here and there, I was devoted to my practice and achieving my goal. In the end, I was filled with the feeling of accomplishment and joy. I could not have made it without my instructors and friend's support and encouragement; I am truly grateful for that. I will be abroad in Japan for a year, and unfortunately there is no Bikram Yoga in my town. I will practice whatever form of hot yoga is available, so that I can stay conditioned for Bikram Yoga upon my return! My passion for Bikram keeps growing everyday and I am looking forward to getting back to Pearland Bikram Yoga next year to learn and develop new skills with you all, again. |
Rabbit - Sasangasana Posture Clinic
Do not move or turn your head in this posture as it is very easy to injure your neck and cervical spine. | In sanskrit, sasang means the rabbit and hence this pose is known as the "rabbit pose".
Bikram yoga posture #23, Rabbit, produces the opposite effect of the camel, giving maximum longitudinal extension of the spine. As a result, it stretches the spine to permit the nervous system to receive proper nutrition. It also maintains the mobility and elasticity of the spine and back muscles.
The rabbit improves digestion and helps cure colds, sinus problems, and chronic tonsillitis. And it has a wonderful effect on thyroid and parathyroid glands. The pose improves the flexibility of the scapula and the trapezius.

Danielle Welcome to our new teacher! I was born and raised in Missouri City, and am a part-time student at the University of Houston. I also own my own small business, Vintage Verse. Having tried many different exercise approaches I found Bikram Yoga in April 2007. After my first class I knew I would always practice Bikram Yoga. My strong belief in living a healthy lifestyle lead naturally to my passion for Bikram Yoga's healing practice. I have personally experienced those benefits. I continually look forward to the calming, healing and strengthening to be gained from this practice. I attended Teacher Training in the fall of 2008 and am now sharing the joy I have found through this practice with others. I look forward to guiding you through an upbeat, challenging, rejuvenating and healing series of postures in the hot room. Namaste!

Healing Monthly Testimonial from Bikram Students All Over the World
Issue: Cholesterol
Definition: Cholesterol is a steroid lipid, found in the cell membranes of all body tissues, and transported in the blood plasma of all animals. Most cholesterol is not dietary in origin, it is synthesized internally. It is present in higher concentrations in tissues which either produce more or have more densely packed membranes; for example the liver, spinal cord, brain and atheroma. Cholesterol plays a central role in many biochemical processes, but is best known for the association of cardiovascular disease with various lipoprotein cholesterol transport patterns in the blood.
This information is regarding my husband, S.R. He began attending Bikram's Yoga class in Montpelier, Vermont with Cindy Litchman to help him with carpal tunnel syndrome. Needless to say, it did help him a lot, but also, he just had his cholesterol checked and was shocked - his good cholestorol level went up 15 points, and his bad cholestorol level went down 60 points!

Zen Corner Dominica's "Whale Whisperer" Shares a Remarkable Story!
Andrew Armour, who runs Kubuli Watersports on the Caribbean island of Dominica, has been called the "Whale Whisperer" because of his ability to communicate with sperm whales, particularly a young male named "Scar."
"Once I'm in the water I try to reach them acoustically by making this noise in the water, and it's the same noise all the time so they know it's me," he says. "So I'm talking to them all the time in the water, and they start coming."
To be sure, had Herman Melville been to Dominica and swum with its whales, he might have had trouble finding the inspiration to write the classic novel, "Moby Dick."
Perhaps 200 of the fabled cetaceans utilize the surrealistically blue realm beyond the island. None has expressed ferocity toward humans or bitten the leg from a tyrannical (and fictional) captain.
On the contrary, as people such as Armour have learned, these great leviathans, once hunted mercilessly around the world, are docile and at times even seem friendly toward people. |

Some say, a person can be judged by the company they keep. If that is so, then we are on the right track because you all are wonderful company! Thank you for being a part of our PBY family.
