Volunteers, Runners, and Sponsors,
It is with great pride and appreciation that the EUA-Mexico 10K race organizers say 'thank you' to our thousands of runners, sponsors, race and reforestation volunteers, and everyone else that was instrumental in making the Inaugural EUA-Mexico 10K and follow-on reforestation a smashing success.
We are happy to report that 6,000 trees have been living comfortably high above Monterrey through the efforts of more than 200 volunteers on August 30th. Happily, the commencement of the 2009 rains coincided perfectly with our reforestation efforts, with the first rains opening up as volunteers were digging holes to receive the young saplings. With the onset of rains timed perfectly, we are confident that our tree survival rate will far exceed our initial goal of 70%. Your race organizers, GMAC, and the Comisión Nacional Forestal are extremely thankful to every sponsor, runner and the tree-planting volunteer for making the race's reforestation effort a reality.
Your race organizers are already looking forward to July 4, 2010 and everyone should be aware that it will be here before we know it. We are busy making plans for next year to ensure the 2nd edition is even better than the first. With feedback that so many of you were so kind to provide, we look forward to bringing you improved t-shirts, increased hydration availability, and many other items that we are confident will provide our runners with an unparalleled running experience. We are more determined than ever to ensure our race provides the 'green' standard for races throughout Mexico and beyond. We look forward to working with you and our sponsors to ensure the race meets everyone's high expectations for environmental responsibility.
If you would like to provide additional thoughts or comments on our efforts in Monterrey, you are encouraged to visit our Facebook page or the U.S. State Department's global blog that recently featured the race and reforestation:
We look forward to seeing you at races in and around Monterrey in the months ahead. And, we look forward to providing you with details about next year's event as they become available.
