South Haven, Michigan
The South Haven Van Buren County Convention & Visitors Bureau has the enviable task of promoting the lakeside community as an all-seasons destination. The Michigan Beachtowns member contracted Digital Active to create an updated public website and mobile website to showcase all that South Haven has to offer.
In July the new site was launched with great feedback from their members and visitors alike. Digital Active's content management system, ActiveCMS, is used to seamlessly manage site content for both the main site and the mobile site. The new South Haven tourism website has more photos, more personalized content, and expanded shopping, restaurant, attraction and lodging options.
Lisa Shanley, the Executive Director of the South Haven Van Buren Convention and Visitors Bureau, is ecstatic with the updated website, saying, "Many of the improvements are behind the scenes which allow our staff to update any section at any time. The visitors to the site will love the seamless navigation that allows your cursor to float over categories, making for fewer clicks to finding desired information." The new Visitors Bureau website, southhaven.org, has become the number one ranked website for South Haven visitor lodging information. The site has generated nearly 250,000 unique visitors from all 50 states and 72 countries.

| The Future of Flash
While Apple held strong on refusing to add Flash compatibility to the iOS for its iPad and iPhones, it seems another industry giant is following a similar strategy. Microsoft has announced that the new Windows 8 Metro user interface will not support Adobe Flash, instead embracing the HTML5 set of web standards, according to Microsoft's Internet Explorer team leader Dean Hachamovitch. Hachamovitch explains that running IE without Flash or other plug-ins "improves battery life as well as security, reliability, and privacy for consumers."
The issue of battery life is one of the key reasons Apple doesn't support Flash on its mobile devices. Apple also claims Flash adds to the number of application crashes.
While Flash has served as a great delivery device in the past, the mobile market has exposed some of the cumbersome qualities of the format. Adobe has admitted as much by developing tools to convert Flash files into the HTML5 format.
As Digital Active continues to develop websites and web applications, we have jettisoned the Flash format in favor of more accessible formats. While we monitor the shifts in industry standards, we also take a patient approach as we continue to provide our clients with the most accessible and stable formats.

KAK Golf Outing
The KAK Network hosted the 3rd annual KAK Golf Outing at the Lansing Country Club. The September 12 event was in honor of Kevin Kelly, the former director of the Michigan State Medical Society. Kevin's passing in December 2008 inspired many of his friends and colleagues to get involved in charitable organizations. Continuing his legacy, the KAK Network is a non-profit group which honors Kelly through fund-raising for the Kevin Alan Kelly Action Fund, a Donor Advised Fund managed by his widow, Jamie Kelly, and administered by the Capital Region Community Foundation. "Kevin would be thrilled to know that his family, friends and associates gathered in celebration of his life, legacy and commitment to public service", said Jamie. For a third year in a row, the outing attracted a record number of sponsors, donors, and golfers who remember their friend Kevin's amazing influence. The KAK Network's website, provided by Digital Active, shares information, registration and donations for the outing. Digital Active partner Todd Ross serves on the KAK Network Board and has been an active member of the organization since its inception. Digital Active is proud to have once again been a sponsor of the event. Visit kaknetwork.org to see participants and sponsors. We are looking forward to next year's event as we remember Kevin's philosophy; PACE, Positive Attitude Changes Everything!
