Supporting a Local Family Digital Active joins several other area businesses to support the family of Curt Luttig by sponsoring the 2011 Links Fore Tomorrow Golf and Dinner Benefit to be held on June 17th. Last year's Links Fore Tomorrow proved to be a special event and this year's promises to be just as successful. WILX TV 10's Jason Colthrop will be the evening's emcee. Curt was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gerhig's disease in December of 2009. This year's event also includes a partnership with Project Main St., a national organization dedicated to improving the lives of those dealing with ALS. Mobile App or Mobile Website?
As the smartphone and mobile device market share increases, the need for B2B, or B2C continues to grow. The big question facing businesses looking to collaborate with staff or connect to customers is: Mobile App or Mobile Website?
Digital Active has developed mobile app prototypes on iPhone and Android operating systems. But with all things considered, our approach is to develop mobile websites. This strategy seems to be on the rise, as noted in the April issue of Entrepreneur magazine. Writer John Arnold notes the pros and cons of the two approaches. Arnold is quick to point out that the strategy behind mobile development depends on the target audience, but mobile websites are on the rise. The main benefit is a mobile website is that it can be accessed through a mobile web browser, regardless of the device. "With mobile apps, you need to develop a new app for every type of device you want to reach, while just one mobile website can reach anyone with a device that has web browsing", says Arnold. For Digital Active, the mobile website approach is the perfect fit for extending the capabilities of our ActiveOffice suite. The mobile market is expanding at an astonishing pace. For many of our clients, utilizing a mobile version of ActiveOffice is the logical next step in staying connected.

Startup Weekend "Awesomeness!"
StartUp Weekend arrived in Lansing for a weekend of tech-driven competition from April 8-10. The weekend brought together software developers, graphics designers and business people to the East Lansing Technology Innovation Center (TIC) to create web and/or mobile applications and form a business out of the idea. The weekend was a roaring success, bringing in nearly 50 guests and 8 teams. Connections were made, partnerships were formed, and some of the projects that came to fruition at the event are continuing on to see if the business will succeed. Eric Jorgenson, the organizational force behind Lansing StartUp Weekend, had a "freaking awesome" time at the event. Said Jorgenson, "The most gratifying part for me was [to see] people who came from all over... a number of people mentioned that they wished they had events, people and a culture like this in their own city. It's great to become a beacon of Startup Awesomeness!" The winning innovation was Soapbox, a real-time barometer and crowd-sourced question platform for classrooms. The award for 'Coolest' application went to CampusRoutes, a map and pathfinder for campuses to reduce walking times to class and make it easier to find relevant events and specials. Digital Active was a proud sponsor of the event, which helped great ideas to come to life.
