Capital Area I.T. Council Member Meeting: Mobile Apps

The Capital Area I.T. Council invited Digital Active's Todd Ross to paMobile Appsrticipate in a panel discussion on mobile applications.  The four-person panel, moderated by CAITC's president Bil Moore, presented at the organization's March member meeting. The discussion covered the rapid acceleration of mobile apps and how businesses can use the myriad mobile devices to connect with customers and create efficiencies. Each panelist talked about mobile app projects and the strategies for planning, development and deployment. Todd Ross - CAIT PanelEach panelist was asked about best practices for ensuring a successful mobile application deployment.
"Testing, testing, testing" was echoed by each panelist. Ross added "... planning and testing are critical, but also be prepared for expansion. Mobile apps, like web-applications, are developed in a phased approach. Be looking for feedback and be prepared to address issues in changing technology and adding functions without changing the entire user interface."

The program also included a presentation from the Greater Lansing Convention and Visitors Bureau (http://www.lansing.org) on its new mobile apps on the iPhone, Android and Blackberry platforms. The North American Travel Journalists Association named the GLCVB's app the number one mobile travel app in the US.

New Client: The Assistive Technology Research (ATR) Division of Wheelchair International

ATR Wheelchair InternationalATR conducts research on provisioning assistive technology devices and services in the developing world. Their research focuses on developing countries and other resource-limited environments within developed countries. The research includes wheelchairs, prosthesis, hearing aids, vision aids, and communication aids. Digital Active will produce a web-based application using our ActiveOffice foundation, to track and manage research materials. The collaborators will be a global group working in Tanzania, Cambodia, Vietnam, Columbia, South Africa and within the U.S. on the Navajo nation. ATR's work involves finding and creating technologies to help developing countries produce assistive resources (e.g., wheelchairs) from resources that are easily accessible. This means helping local providers  develop devices that can be easily built and serviced with materials that are available locally. ATR is doing fantastic work and Digital Active is proud to welcome the group as a new client.

Client Spotlight: Olympus Media

Olympus Media LLC (Atlanta, GA) utilizes an ActiveOffice corporate intranet. Olympus ActiveOfficeDigital Active developed the intranet primarily as a document management system, enabling the various markets within Olympus to collaborate between departments and with the corporate headquarters in Atlanta. Olympus has kept Digital Active busy with requests for new functions to the system, including dynamic form creation and integration with third party data used in scheduling billboards and digital displays. Over the past year Olympus has acquired outdoor advertising companies and added several new markets, including Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.
The Olympus intranet features include:
  • A searchable Creative section with images of billboards based on location or industry
  • A Stock Art directory
  • "Before & Afters", an image directory showcasing the creative improvements in design
  • A tool to create contracts, contract addendums
  • A tool to manage creative briefs and production agreements
  • A directory of billboard locations and maps
  • A Proposal Generator, with tracking and reporting
The system can email the dynamic PDF files from within the system, track the files sent, and can also store the files in the system or locally.

"We could not be happier with the way our company Intranet has come together. Our system has received praise and compliments from our sales force right up to our executive team. We are already seeing a return on our investment and there is a tremendous difference in the efficiency, accuracy and productivity of our employees."
