Active App: The Power of PDF Files
In 1993 the Adobe company released the Adobe Portable Document format. Better known as PDF files, the format steadily gained market share. Today millions of businesses and consumers continue to utilize PDF files.
In July of 2008, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) approved Adobe's venerable PDF publishing specification as an international standard. If you have technical "expertise" to view this newsletter, you have encountered a PDF file. With ActiveOffice, developed by Digital Active, PDF files are used in a variety of ways.
For years PDF files have served to allow file sharing, being posted or downloaded through a website. Digital Active has recognized the power of the PDF and incorporates that power into ActiveOffice with numerous applications that allow the creation of PDF files using data from multiple databases. For the outdoor advertising company Olympus Media LLC, Atlanta GA, Digital Active developed contract generators that allow Olympus sales staff to create contracts by pulling data from their scheduling software into an online form. Once the sales person has entered the information into the required fields, a PDF contract can be saved, emailed or printed. The system tracks the contracts and ensures accuracy.
ActiveOffice also features the ability to export data into a PDF file from almost any display page. The system offers various reporting tools, the results of which can be exported into a PDF file. This gives our clients the flexibility to share information between staff and clients, whether the person is using PC or Mac operating systems. Since ActiveOffice is based on another Adobe product, Cold Fusion, the system can create a myriad of custom files in the PDF format. Click here, to learn how your organization can capture the power of PDF with ActiveOffice.

The Global Observatory for Ecosystems is Launched!
The website for the Global Observatory for Ecosystems (GOES) is launched. The group focuses on measuring ecosystems using satellite imagery, ground measurements and computer models. Currently the GOES partners include: the World Wildlife Fund, University of Maryland, the United Nations Environment Programme, the Chicago Climate Exchange, the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies, the World Agroforestry Center, Kenyan Forestry Research Institute and the International Center for Forest Research.
As a leading source of agroforestry information, the GOES group will use the website to connect with partners, sponsors, and people interested in carbon management and overall environmental issues. Digital Active developed the website using ActiveCMS content management tools. The ActiveCMS tool is also connected to a partner website, carbon2markets.org. This allows the GOES staff to post news items and select whether the item should be on the GOES site, the carbon2markets site, or both. The site offers an RSS news feed and links to the GOES Facebook page. Digital Active is proud to be associated with such a relevant project. Please visit the GOES website to learn more.

Rising from the Ashes: Digital Active Helps in Rebuilding Effort
In February of 2007 a fire swept through the Lebowsky Center in downtown Owosso, Michigan. The historic building was built in 1926 as the Capital Theater. From vaudeville to movies - and eventually home to the Owosso Players, the theater was a classic small-town venue. The cause of the fire was arson, although no suspects were ever found. Despite the destruction, the community rallied to rebuild the theater. The Rebuild Committee was formed to organize the reconstruction and promotion of the new facility. A major focus was to maintain the historical structure, and the exterior hearkens back to the original theater. The interior will combine historical elements with state-of-the-art design, providing updated lighting, acoustics and seating.Digital Active created a new website devoted to the new Lebowsky Center. The ocprebuild.org site was launched in November. The site provides information on the rebuilding efforts, an events listing, photo gallery and news updates. The Rebuild staff uses ActiveCMS tools from Digital Active to manage the site content. The site also includes the ability to accept online credit card donations thru PayPal.Digital Active is delighted to have played a part in such a wonderful community effort. Please visit the website to learn more about the building and to see upcoming events.
