Making A Better Impression

Can you tell when the person you are talking to on the phone is doing something else, such as working on their computer? Of course! We offer up this advice: To make sure you give the conversation 100% focus, turn away from your computer so you won't be tempted to multitask. We try to follow our own advice, but how is it that we fall off the wagon? Peter Bregman, author of Point B: A Short Guide To Leading a Big Change, explains why: "If there's no downside to stopping (multitasking), why don't we all just stop? I think it's because our minds move considerably faster than the outside world. You can hear far more words a minute than someone else can speak. We have so much to do, why waste any time? So, while you're on the phone listening to someone, why not use that extra brain power to book a trip to Florence?"

Bregman tried to go a week without multitasking. It's an entertaining five minute read, How (and Why) to Stop Multitasking. It just may convince you to do less multitasking and become more efficient, win friends, influence people and even enhance your family life.
