PASTOR ROYER'S CORNER
"The Right Time to Tell the Story"
In the Gospel of John, an excited Mary Magdalene returns from the tomb early Easter morning to tell the disciples, "I have seen the Lord!" In the Gospel of Luke, later that daytwo disciples return from their walk to Emmaus to announce to the other disciples that Jesus appeared to them. But before they can speak, the other disciples announce to them, "The Lord has risen indeed!" And so it has gone to this very day. Christians prove over and over again that the power of the gospel is in the telling. When we have the Good News, we can't keep it to ourselves. Every situation and circumstance is a right time for sharing the gospel.
That was made clear in the lives of one of our sister saints at ALC a couple Tuesdays ago. Dodie had set out to drive from home to church for a meeting of the Women of Ascension. The harsh, wet winter has left our country roads full of potholes. Missing them is like navigating an obstacle course. Hit one of the larger, deeper ones, and you can almost count on a flat tire.
Dodie was managing to miss most of them that morning until oncoming traffic meant she couldn't avoid a big one on Linton Hill Road. The car struck it with a loud thud. That was followed by the unmistakable sound and feel of a flat tire. Dodie safely pulled over, and wondered what in the world she was going to do. Before she had come up with an answer a young man drove up behind her, stopped, and asked if he could help. He volunteered to phone for help since Dodie had been a bit unnerved by the experience.
While they waited for the tow truck, Dodie thanked the young man, and told him that he had surely been a "Good Samaritan" for her. That might have been the end of the conversation, but it wasn't. Dodie didn't miss out on a chance to witness to the Good News even if she was shaken up from her experience. She asked the young man if he knew the Bible story of the Good Samaritan. He said he did, but invited her to tell it to him again. And while they waited a few more minutes for the tow truck, she did.
The power of the gospel is in the sharing. And ever since that first Easter morning, the time for doing that has always been right.
In Christ, Pastor Royer

NEW AID FOR FRIENDS MINISTRY AT ALC
Our Confirmation classes have been making Aid for Friends breakfast bags for several years. These bags contain the ingredients for a sound breakfast meal. They are distributed to homebound persons throughout the Delaware Valley. Now we have expanded our Aid for Friends ministry to include cooked dinners. Members and friends of ALC are invited to use the materials supplied by AFF and prepare a meal for a homebound person. Simply put a serving of what you are having at your main meal into the tray, cover it with aluminum foil, fill out the menu card, put it in the plastic bag, and bring it to the church freezer. We will transport these meals to Aid for friends, and they will be distributed to some of the 2,000 persons served by AFF. When we introduced this ministry last Sunday, the response was so great that all the supplies we had were taken. New AFF supplies will be available soon.

THRIVENT BUILDS IN LOWER BUCKS ~ UPDATE
The congregations of the Lower Bucks Conference are partnering with Thrivent Financial and Habitat for Humanity to build a new house at 2215 Liberator Street in Levittown. Pastor Royer, Bill Rumpa, amd Merri Perrone took part in th groundbreaking on March 20. The actual construction will begin on May 1, by which time a family for the home will have been selected.
Our congregational champions, Bill Rumpa, John Carducci, and Mike Horan have signed up for Saturday, May 8 for 5 volunteers from Ascension to work on the house's second floor decking. There are many weekdays available also. We are encouraging members and friends to sign up to work on the Saturday for which Ascension is assuming responsiblity. The signup sheet is with the Thrivent Builds poster on display in the narthex at church. The week days are posted, as well. This project is a wonderful opportunity to help a family of modest financial means purchase an affordable, quality home.

ASCENSION FLEA MARKET TO SUPPORT THRIVENT BUILDS ~
SATURDAY, MAY 15
The congregations taking part in the Thrivent Builds project in Levittown need to raise 10% of the cost of the house. That's $14,500. At ALC, we are aiming to raise $1,000. Our first effort will be a Flea Market on Saturday, May 15 (rain date May 22) from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Spaces will be made available to members and nonmembers. We also plan to have a bake sale and car wash at the flea market. You can support this effort by having a table, baking, volunteering, telling your friends, and shopping. Registration packets are available at the church. Members of ALC who register to have tables are asked to donate 10% of their proceeds to our Thrivent Builds project. Nonmembers who register will be asked to make a donation based on their table location. For more information, you can contact ascensionfleamarket@gmail.com or talk with Mike Horan at church.
