| HAPPY 100 YEARS CHEVROLET!
One of the most famous names in the history of automobiles celebrates its 100th anniversary this week. On November 3, 1911, one of the great early car entrepreneurs, William C Durant, went into business with a Swiss racing driver and mechanic who gave the brand its name: Louis Chevrolet.
When the first Chevrolet was built in 1911 in a rented garage near downtown Detroit, it began a journey that has taken Chevrolet to every corner of the planet. A hundred years and more than 209 million cars and trucks later, Chevrolet is one of the world's largest car brands and are on the roads in 2/3 of the world, doing business in more than 140 countries.
Chevy Highlights:
- Its "Bowtie" logo is said to have been based on a wallpaper design from a Paris hotel Durant stayed in, though accounts differ.
- In 1927, Chevrolet overtook Ford for the first time, with sales of a million-plus vehicles - more than double the 1925 tally. Colorful finishes helped attract buyers to the popular Chevrolet models.
- Chevy introduced the Corvette in 1953, marking the industry's first production fiberglass body.
- For 1986, Corvette became the first Chevrolet with anti-lock brakes, a feature that would soon spread to almost all Chevrolet models. Chevy put standard antilock brakes on more 1992 car and truck models than any other manufacturer.
- Only 4 of the 270 American automotive brands that existed when Chevrolet was founded in 1911 are still going a century later. They are Chevrolet, its GM sister brands Buick and Cadillac, and Chevrolet's traditional competitor from Dearborn, Ford. The GMC Truck brand was also established in 1911, but the nameplate first appeared on 1912 models.

GM Says Driverless Cars are
coming by 2020

GM vice president of global research and development, Alan Taub, predicted advances in autonomous vehicle technology would bring driverless cars closer to reality than many motorist could believe.
The photo above is a second-generation Chevrolet EN-V concept- a vehicle with the ability to drop off its driver, park itself, and then pick up its driver via smartphone commands.
See here for a link to the article and watch a video below of the EN-V in action!

The Electric Vehicle -
Not a new concept!
The Roberts Electric Car was built in 1896 and gets 40 MPG. The present owner says that the car still runs like a dream and has even completed the 60-mile London to Brighton Vintage Car Race.
Driven by a tiller instead of a wheel, the Roberts car was built seven years before the Wright brothers' first flight, 12 years before the Ford Model T, 16 years before Chevrolet was founded and 114 years before the first Chevy Volt was delivered to a customer.

2013 Chevrolet Malibu Update
The Malibu's redesign shares underpinnings with the Buick Regal, and agile and well-finished car. The new Malibu is a bit wider than before but its wheelbase is about 4.5 inches shorter. The primary engine is a 190-hp four-cylinder, but a mild hybrid system (eAssist) yields 26 MPG city/38 MPG hwy.
BOTTOM LINE: The Malibu will come up against some stiff competition in this segment such as the Nissan Altima, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. It is expected the Malibu will retain the Buick Regal's ride, handling, and interior quality. It should become a strong competitor.
