BACKYARD OASIS WINNER UNVEILED
Backyard Oasis WinnerA lucky homeowner from Huntsville, AL was randomly selected as the winner of the Real Outdoor Living Backyard Oasis Giveaway. Annie Laura Smith chose to have her existing deck replaced as her prize. Smith's previous deck had been incorrectly installed and caused severe water damage to her home.

To make sure there would be no repeat problems with her new deck, ROL built the 11x26' structure with deck boards installed at a 45 degree angle to both pull water away from the house and to give the deck a distinct look.

The rebuild gave ROL spokesman Brad Staggs plenty to talk about with local media. Staggs appeared in two spots for "This Morning Huntsville," the number one morning show in the Huntsville market. The Huntsville Times, the largest daily newspaper in the Huntsville market, also ran a story about Smith and her Backyard Oasis prize (photo above is of Smith and Staggs being photographed by the Huntsville Times).

"The Backyard Oasis contest was a huge success," explains ROL's Kim Drew. "The homeowner couldn't have been more excited about her new deck, and ROL got great media coverage for the project."

The Real Outdoor Living Backyard Oasis Giveaway ran from April through August at www.realoutdoorliving.com. The contest drew people to the site in droves. A total of 31,000 contest entries were received, and 29 percent of them specifically requested to receive more information about treated wood.

Southern Living magazine recently reported that its Achasta (Georgia) Idea House, for which Real Outdoor Living provided decking material, is one of its most successful houses to date. So successful, in fact, that they have decided to extend the open house tour through the end of the year.

"This is very exciting news from Southern Living," says ROL's PR counsel Kim Drew. "According to their statistics, the total audience to this Idea House is 4,000 more than originally expected, and that number continues to climb!"

The magazine reported that as of September 11, more than 14,000 visitors had toured the home. The house will now remain open through December 20 and will be styled for a Holiday Tour to give sponsors additional on-site exposure. The Holiday Tour will be promoted in Southern Living magazine, on the magazine's Web site and in local PR efforts. To view a video tour of the GA Idea House, click here

ROL REACHES THOUSANDS ON RADIO
The Real Outdoor Living campaign (in conjunction with the Southern Pine Awareness Network) scored prime exposure thanks to its most recent radio media tour. Brad Staggs, SPAN's third-party spokesman, was interviewed by 12 radio stations throughout the Southeast.

"Brad did a really great job talking up ROL's new podcasts and project plans available on the Web site and about treated wood in general," said SLMA president Debbie Brady.

From the 12 interviews, the ROL/Staggs segments were aired 214 times and garnered 650,000 consumer impressions. The interviews were heard in major Southern markets including Atlanta, Raleigh-Durham, Charleston and several others. One state radio network (TX) picked up the ROL spots, as did New South radio network, which is broadcast in AL, MS, LA and TX.
