Samano, Simone. "Get it Straight" Natural Health February 2009

...sit as straight as possible because slouching compresses the lungs and makes the heart work harder. Additionally, correct posture- by enhancing breathing and reinforcing optimal physical alignment- can ease pain, reduce strain on muscles and joints, and increase energy. "Posture can be strengthened by adding daily exercises that promote moving well and standing strong," says chiropractor Steven P. Weiniger. Adopt these habits; change positions every 15 minutes; sitting or standing in one position too long tires muscles. Keep your chin parallel to the ground to keep your head in line with your spine and take stress off your neck. Be patient. Developing good posture takes time, but if progress is too slow, visit a chiropractor or find an Alexander Technique teacher who can help you regain your natural poise.

WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT GROWS

"What you think about grows." This Eastern maxim sums up neatly the most fundamental of all the Laws of Mind.

What you think upon grows. Whatever you allow to occupy your mind you magnify in your life. Whether the subject of your thoughts be good or bad, the law works and the condition grows. Any subject that you keep out of your mind tends to diminish in your life, because what you do not use atrophies.

The more you think about your indigestion or your rheumatism, the worse it will be become. The more you think of yourself as healthy and well, the better your body will be.

The more you think about lack, bad times, etc., the worse your life will be; and the more you think about prosperity, abundance, and success, the more of these things will you bring into your life.

The more you think about your grievances or the injustices that you have suffered, the more such trials will you continue to receive; and the more you think of the good fortune you have had, the more good fortune will come to you.

This is the basic, fundamental, all-inclusive Law of Mind, and actually all psychological and metaphysical teaching is little more than a commentary on this.

This 1940's excerpt from "Make Your Life Worthwhile" by Emmet Fox captures the essence of a modern day dilemma- should we focus on understanding and working on the world's ills, or do we need to create a new vision and develop a new paradigm? Einstein said that we can't solve today's problems with the same level of thinking that produced them- we must create a new reality where the problem doesn't exist.

Wellness and alternative approaches such a chiropractic and acupuncture are viable options for those seeking more balance and flexibility in their life. Think bigger than just relief of pain and focus on being more loving, more giving, more caring, and you'll see what you think about grows.

MESSAGE OF THE WEEK

WHAT YOUR FEET CAN TELL YOU ABOUT YOUR SPINE

Come in and have a digital scan of your feet to screen for imbalances that contribute to problems in your knees, hips, and lower back.

Your feet are the foundation to your entire body and if the arches of your feet collapse, your body doesn't get the correct postural support it needs.

Call to schedule your complimentary foot scan to see if your feet are normal, pronated (flat feet), or supinated (high arches).

Take this test and then think about if you feel you need to have your feet scanned!

1. Do you stand or walk on hard surfaces more than four hours daily?

2. Do you participate regularly in any physical sport? (Basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling etc.)?

3. Are you age 40 or over?

4. Have you had a prior injury to your knee, back, or neck?

5. Do your shoes wear unevenly?

6. Do you have joint pain while standing, walking, or running?

7. Is one of your legs shorter than the other?

8. Do you have knock-knees or bow legs?

9. Do you have obvious foot problems (bunions, corns, flat feet, etc.)?

10. Do your feet "toe out" when you're walking?
