Commodore Rich HarttFrom the Bridge:

The boats are put away, the club is all buttoned up for the winter  and everyone is looking forward to the coming Holiday season.  It's a great time to both look back on the past season and plan ahead for the coming one.

I want to start by thanking last year's Commodore, Alix Shaw, for all the hard work that went into making 2009 such a huge success.  Her tireless efforts throughout the year helped to ensure everyone had a fun and fulfilling year of sailing, boating and relaxation.  Fall work parties ran smoothly thanks to everyone's help and KC Hill's supervision.  I also want to thank the 2008-2009 Board, purser Gayle Olivette, and our club manager Jim Longo and staff for making sure everything ran smoothly.

Please take the opportunity to show your appreciation for the kids that worked over the summer with a donation to the yearend tip fund mentioned in this newsletter and an associated mailing coming to your homes soon.

Friday night fish fry's were again a huge hit.  Thank you to everyone involved!  Please plan on attending the first of the 2010 season in February.  We also need to thank Steve Burrell, Sarah Webster and Patty Dungey for their work chairing the Moorings, Junior Fleet and Social groups respectively.

Going forward, I want to list some of the key players for the 2009-2010 season.  They are:
VICE COMMODORE - KC Hill
REAR COMMODORE - Mike Mueller
TREASURER - Ray Ryan
BOARD MEMBERS - Sam Woods, Michelle Sullivan, Jerry Mentor, Doug Reep, Todd Cornell, Bill Smith, Elaine Marshall & John Flannery

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the upcoming season, please get don't hesitate to contact one of these folks or myself and we'll look into it.

Thank you to all the members who also donated their time and hard work.  You're the folks that keep this club running!

Have a great winter,

  Rich Hartt

STAFF APPRECIATION
Each year we are very fortunate to have a wonderful staff of young men and women who work hard all to make the summer enjoyable for all of us and this year was no exception!

We have decided once again to solicit a "year end bonus pool" that we will allocate to our staff based on the time they worked over this past summer.  The bonuses would come at a convenient time of year and we are sure be greatly appreciated by our staff.

Many clubs automatically add15-20% to club services but we have never done this.  We ask you to contribute to this fund based on your use of the club facility.  Even if you never had one yard staff help you with your boat, they spend a great deal of time cleaning up the lawns, taking our garbage, and the same is true of the galley staff, the swimming staff and the sailing staff.  It takes all of our Summer Staff to make Willow Bank such a great place to spend the summer.

All contributions are confidential and totally voluntary.  If you wish to make a contribution, you may add it to your regular check (please mark on the 'memo line' the amount you are adding) or send a separate check if you prefer (PO Box 321, Cazenovia, NY  13035).  Donations to this fund will be accepted through December 10th.
Hobart William Smith High School 420 Clinic

WBYC @ Hobart William Smith High School 420 ClinicWillow Bank's Scholastic Sailing Team attended the first High School 420 Clinic hosted by Hobart William Smith and Coached by Scott Ikle.  Scott has hosted several 420 and laser clinics at Willow Bank over the past several years and this year invited High School students to come to Seneca Lake for a taste of College Sailing.  They practiced boat handling, starts, mark rounding and other important lessons for improving their sailing skills.

Thanks to everyone who responded to the September Newsletter Survey.  We received a lot of feedback and many very good suggestions which we hope to follow through on next year.  If you are interested, the results are posted on our website and can be accessed by clicking on this link.
