Yes, we know everyone asks you to become a fan on Facebook but most of the askers are faceless,  not always moral corporations. We're asking you to also submit reviews and post photos of your past CycleItalia tours. We think your input will help potential clients understand why they should consider an Italian bike tour with company owners who research and create their own unique tours, not merely contract with locals to package "canned" itineraries they can market as their own creations. We're linking our website and blog pages to our Facebook page too.  So from there you can learn everything there is to know about the CycleItalia, "pedala forte, mangia bene!" experience. It's not too late to join us for 2011 if you act quickly.

CycleItalia Guided Tours 2011

Here's the lineup for our 13th season of "pedala forte, mangia bene!"

June 6-15              Vineyards to the Sea
June 18-24            Taste of Piedmont
June 24-July 2       Sardegna - Coast to Coast to Coast
July 3-14               Legendary Climbs of the Giro d'Italia EAST
Guided tour dates include flight day and are limited to TEN guests. Reservations taken on a first come-first served basis.

We're often asked about the best case for taking your bike on the airplane. Consider not only the protection offered by the case, but also how easy it will be for the TSA folks to open
it (and close it again) for inspection. We think Sci-Con's Atlas Compact offers "the best choice between hard and soft cases." SciConAtlas

Legendary Climbs of the Giro d'Italia

Cycling coverage on TV

We're watching Tirreno-Adriatico via Universal Sports. You may also find video via Steephill TV. The Italian scenery is of course stunning as they ride through Tuscany and Le Marche. We think watching them racing will be just the thing to motivate you to get out and ride  - AND reserve a place on a CycleItalia 2011 tour - so you can experience the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of la dolce vita in bicicletta.

Don't miss out!
A few 2011 itineraries are nearly sold-out. Don't wait too long to reserve your place for the summer season. We'd hate for you to miss out on la dolce vita in bicicletta for another year.

Mechanic's Corner

One of the first bike industry folks to help us "back-in-the-day" we ran our home based bike repair business, Cycle Clinic, was Francis Bollag. We'd lost track of him but found him again via our new Facebook campaign.
He kindly sent us a sample of of his chain lube,  CHAIN-L #5

As readers of this newsletter already know, Larry's a big fan of using OIL to lube chains rather than the other concoctions on the market, particularly those claiming to be "clean" or "dry".
Years ago during a rainy Giro d'Italia tour, Larry foolishly loaned his chain lube to the group rather than applying it for them. The result -- a season's worth of lube was gone in minutes, leaving him with nothing but an empty container. While nobody was looking he refilled the branded chainlube container with simple motor oil from a supply we kept for the support vehicles.
Interestingly, more than a few clients commented on how smooth and quiet their drivetrains were after being lubed with this "secret" lubricant. They asked what brand it was so they could buy some when they went home!
Francis has taken this idea to the next step with his cleverly named product. Read more on the reasons OIL is superior as a chain lubricant by using the link above.
