Two Ways to Help Raise the Age: Attend Press Conference and Call the House
June 2, 2011
Greetings!
The legislative session is winding down and Raise the Age is still stuck in committee, waiting for a hearing. Here are two things YOU can do to help RAISE THE AGE!
(1) Attend the Press Conference on Raise the Age (2) Call the House Judiciary B committee and co-chairs
PRESS CONFERENCE
We want to pack the room at the legislative press conference next Tuesday, June 7 at 1:30 in the press room at the Legislative Building (16 West Jones Street). Our primary House sponsor has called the press conference and will be speaking, along with Justice Bob Orr, Police Chief Frank Palombo, and a parent of a young person affected by the law.
Please come and stand up in support of Raising the Age!
(Once you get to the building, just ask someone to direct you to the legislative press room.)
CALL THE HOUSE JUDICIARY B COMMITTEE HB 632: Juvenile Age to 18 is stuck in committee, waiting for a hearing. The co-chairs would rather not bring the bill up, but we know we have the votes on the committee to pass Raise the Age! We need to urge the co-chairs to give the bill a hearing and a vote, and we need to encourage the committee members to support the bill when it comes up. 1) Ask Co-Chairs Stam and Stevens to give the bill a hearing Rep. Paul Stam 919-733-2962 Paul.Stam@ncleg.net Rep. Sarah Stevens 919-715-1883 Sarah.Stevens@ncleg.net
2) Contact members of the House Judiciary B Committee. Message: Raise the age: Vote YES on House bill 632! 3) Forward this alert to your networks, family members and friends! We can keep paying for the costs of crime, or we can invest in our youth and get it right the first time! WE CAN DO BETTER NC!
