Don't Work Us Till We Die: Come Stand up for Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare on Thursday at noon in Raleigh

April 26, 2011

Greetings!

Politicians in Washington are working to dismantle parts of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. They want to cut Social Security and raise the retirement age. The US House just passed a budget that would turn Medicare over to the insurance companies and slash funding for Medicaid, the program that serves lower-income seniors, woman, children, and people with disabilities.

We're going to stop these outrages from happening. On April 28, join Congressman Brad Miller and others in Raleigh who are standing up against these attacks.  We will demand: "Don't Make Us Work 'Til We Die. Hands off Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid."

Social Security isn't just for the elderly. It protects children, too.

Did you know...
  • Eight percent of Social Security beneficiaries in NC are children. That's over 136,000 children in our state.
  • Medicaid provides 900,000 North Carolina children with health insurance.
The current campaign by some federal lawmakers to cut Social Security and Medicaid would be devastating for North Carolina's children.

We are joining with other allied groups to call on federal leaders to strengthen - not dismantle - Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare. Come out and lend your support at the kick-off press conference on Thursday at noon at the Social Security building in Raleigh. US Congressman Brad Miller will be the key speaker at the press conference, and you will also hear from North Carolinians who depend on social security benefits and Medicaid to make ends meet.
