An Upside to the Downturn |

The current market has not been kind to most businesses or individuals. To say otherwise would be disingenuous. Despite the challenges created by the current economic climate, it is still important to be aware of the advantages that can be found during times like this.
- There has been a reduction in the cost of construction materials due to the declining demand. According to RSMeans, since September 2008, the construction materials price index has fallen by 9.6%. This is expected to continue for several more months. RSMeans also predicts overall construction material costs will begin rising again by the end of the year.
- There are currently lower than normal occupancy levels at most properties. While this in itself is not an advantage, this does provide a prime window for having open-facility work performed while minimizing guest disruptions.
Our industry and our economy have shown the ability, time after time, to bounce back stronger than ever from conditions like these. What we must do now is to use our time preparing to come out ahead.
As Jack Welch, former CEO of GE, said at the recent AAHOA conference, "The winners of tomorrow will be those who take advantage of today in a big way. ... Make those bold moves. There will be a tomorrow, a tomorrow you can be strong in and win big in." |

Fairfield Inn - Portland, ME |
IDC has completed the renovation of a Fairfield Inn in Portland, Maine. Owned by Hospitality Ventures, LLC of Atlanta, GA, IDC updated the public and commercial spaces at this 118 key property to a more contemporary appearance.
