House of Speed helps athletes improve speed and quickness
but it takes athletes with a special kind of character to really excel . Sean Blackman is an athlete used to
overcoming adversity and focusing on what he needs to do to improve, he
consistently shows the character needed to take the next step. Sean has recently recovered from a separated
shoulder after a great game against Forest Park, he also has broken his right
leg 3 times during his Freshman and Sophomore years. Against Forest Park he rushed for 240 yards
before leaving with the injury. Sean is
a running back and cornerback for Stonewall Jackson and was happy to be back on
the field this last weekend.
Sean initially came to House of Speed after he had the
opportunity to work out with our trainers during a demo day at the school. He knew that if he wanted to play at the next
level he needed to improve his technique, quickness and speed. The drills he took part in on at that demo
showed him exactly what he was looking for.
Sean was fast before the program but was looking to take some time off
of his 40 to move him up a notch in
comparison to other players. He credits
House of Speed for taking over a tenth of a second off of his time in just the
couple months he could work out before football season started.
Sean has expressed interest in several schools including;
the University of Delaware, Princeton and Liberty University to continue his
football career, primarily focusing on being a defensive back but looks forward
to the opportunities once he is there.
Sean has goals of continuing his growth as a player and preparing
himself for life after football, he is looking into being a business major with
an eye to starting his own business in the future. Sean is considering Marketing as his
concentration once he gets into school.
Sean also considers playing baseball in college if the
timing is right, though football is his passion and where he wants to be sure
he is concentrating his time. He is
considering walking on once he has a better feel for college life.
House of Speed has helped Sean to improve his work
ethic. He realized early on that he
needed to improve his focus on running form and cardio work. He previously had struggled with this,
preferring strength training. By
focusing on this area of his training has allowed him to make great strides and
better position him for future success.
He credits the House of Speed program for helping him focus on what he
could improve on. The importance of an
explosive first step is vital in both his football and baseball future. Some of the drills that stood out for him
that were things he hadn't focused on previously were the Power Pull, and jump
rope. These drills forced him to focus
on proper form and foot placement as well as helping to build strength and
stamina.
Sean was quick to point out that he is no fan of the DROM
warm-ups... He sees the benefit in
building balance and flexibility during the warm up session but remembers all
too well the tired legs and difficulty of staying balanced while doing them, at
the beginning. He was always happy to
have that behind him and dig into the rest of the workout.
When Sean was asked what stood out as a moment that
showed the hard work and training he was doing was having an impact, he pointed
to seeing his times for 10 and 20 yards dropping. More importantly was when he started to hear
comments from other players on the team asking what he was doing. At that point he knew he was reaping the
benefits of his hard work in the House of Speed program.
Finally I asked Sean what he would say to other athletes
who are considering House of Speed. His
response was very honest and hits home for athletes looking to take the next
step. "I recommend House of Speed but
only if you are willing to work hard to improve. You have to have the mindset that you want to
get better and put the effort in to get yourself there. It was fun and I consistently looked forward
to the training because I knew it was going to help me improve. It is a tremendous workout and if you work,
you are going to get better."
At House of Speed we appreciate Sean and all of our
athletes for their dedication to the program and to their dedication to
improvement. We look forward to watching
his success as he continues his athletic career and beyond.
