Summer in the South
The oriole sings in the greening grove As if he were half-way waiting, The rosebuds peep from their hoods of green, Timid, and hesitating. The rain comes down in a torrent sweep And the nights smell warm and piney, The garden thrives, but the tender shoots Are yellow-green and tiny. Then a flash of sun on a waiting hill, Streams laugh that erst were quiet, The sky smiles down with a dazzling blue And the woods run mad with riot.

Carving Out Space for Science & Woodworking!
Phase II of our Capital Campaign was launched at the beginning of June. To date we have raised almost $30,000 toward our $87,000 goal. Thank you to the Class of 2010 for its contribution of $1,000.
While we continue to raise these essential Capital funds, we have begun Phase II construction so that we can relocate our Administrative office to make space for a remodeled Science & Woodworking room by the beginning of the school year. We'll be posting more photos on the website soon. Your contribution will make a difference. To make a donation to the Capital Campaign, please download a donation form. |
Administration Update
We are pleased to announce the following personnel have joined the Administration Group:
Building Manager -- As of the end of June, Alex Weick is no longer our Building Manager. We thank Alex for his years of service to the school and wish him all the best for the future.
Craig Wenberg has been hired as our new Building Manager. Craig is the father of Collin who will be in 8th grade next year and Mac, Alumni Class of 2007. Craig has a degree in Plant Maintenance and 16 years of Building Management experience--we are very excited that he has joined us.
Admissions Director -- In addition to teaching Ensemble, Lauri Pierce will take over primary responsibility for Admissions. Brenda Haak will continue to support enrollment and will teach in our Kindergarten and Growing Together programs. Lauri has been our Admissions Director in the past and we are looking forward to her rejoining the Administrative team.
Student Services Coordinator -- The position of Student Services Coordinator will be shared between Vicki Dunlop and Amy Martel.
Vicki Dunlop is the mother of Connor who will be in 7th grade next year and Alexis, Alumni Class of 2010. Vicki has a degree in Computer Science, has worked in software development and also has vast Waldorf experience working at the Spring Hill School as a volunteer Office & Newsletter Coordinator and as the Parent Council Co-Chair.
Amy Martel is the mother of Amani who is in Miss Eileen's Kindergarten. You may recognize Amy from her role as the Kindergarten Traffic Monitor! In addition, she has extensive office experience and plenty of practical health experience from her years as an Acupuncturist!
Marketing Coordinator Vicki Dunlop will also be working part-time as our Marketing Coordinator.
We are fortunate to have found such a strong group of staff members for our Administrative team.
The office is staffed Monday - Thursday from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. |
Did you Know?Canada Thistle stores so much energy in its root system that it can re-grow from root fragments only one-quarter of an inch long. Those root fragments can survive underground, without replenishment from photosynthesis, for 100 days. In addition, new plants can emerge from almost any place along the root system of another plant. It is truly an amazing plant! Anyone who has ever tried to clear an infestation of thistle will agree. You may recall noticing this spring what a glorious thistle infestation we had going in the front circle garden. It was truly impressive, an Eeyore heaven! In order to clear it for new plantings, however, we needed to take drastic action. We have covered the garden with a thick layer of black plastic, to cut off both water and photosynthesis to those roots. It is not pretty, but should allow us to clear the area without the use of toxic chemicals. Watch for more updates on the progress of our front circle garden as the school year begins! |
