Dear Friends of the Minnesota Waldorf School,
We have just received exciting news of a $15,000 matching grant that will help pay for geothermal heating in our new Kindergarten Cottage & Early Childhood building! The grant is from the Green Heart Fund of The Minneapolis Foundation.

As most of you know, the geothermal heating is just part of a $400,000 capital campaign to enhance our facilities, expand our curriculum and support our teachers (see below for more info).

We need your support to raise $15,000 in matching funds, and to raise money for the overall campaign. As of today, we have received pledges of $103,480, and $9,000 of that amount is designated for geothermal heating! Your contribution can be designated toward geothermal heating, or it can go to the overall project or another component of the plan such as:
  • Construction of the Kindergarten/Early Childhood Cottage
  • Renovation of main school building to allow designated space for woodworking and science, or other subjects as needed
  • Marmoleum flooring (a 'green' version of linoleum) in the Cottage
  • Increasing FT staff salaries to $45,000/year
  • Retirement plan contributions for FT staff
  • Expanded teacher hours to better support foreign language, Eurythmy and early childhood programs
For the geothermal grant, we won't receive any of the grant money unless we can raise the full $15,000 from current families, alumni or families of alumni, or extended families of current or former students. The total cost of geothermal heating is estimated at $67,000, so the $30,000 raised through this matching grant and matching donations will cover nearly half the cost of this wonderfully green addition to our new building.

If you are interested and able to contribute, please download a pledge form and mail your donation to MWS, attn: Liz Lacey-Gotz, 70 E Cty Rd B, St Paul, MN 55117. Or, call or email Liz at school, to discuss your pledge possibilities and to have a form and return envelope sent to you via regular mail.

We thank you all for your support of this project!

The Kindergarten Cottage and geothermal heating are part of a larger capital campaign to create a beautifully upgraded and expanded building and grounds to support a full Waldorf curriculum including academics, art, foreign language and movement. The campaign also includes funding to strengthen and support teacher development and retention.
