Greetings!
These are exciting times on Pine Ridge, and we're so very thankful to those who have joined us already, and for those of you who we will see soon.
A big WOPILA TANKA (thank you) to our volunteers who have joined us so far from college and university campuses across the United States: (week one) Northeastern University and Saint Anselm College; (week two) Assumption College, Loyola University, and Xavier University; and (week three) Colgate University and Columbia University.
Each year, we see more and more college students coming to spend a week with us as part of their "Spring Break Alternative or ASB" programs. Our kola Henry Red Cloud offered up his thoughts on these students in a recent video.
We are also thankful to our growing partnerships with a number of organizations started by volunteers who have come to Pine Ridge with Re-Member, and returned home to launch their own efforts.
The Lakota Pine Ridge Children's Enrichment Project, Ltd. is the resulting efforts of Maggie Dunne, a student at Colgate University who was driven to do more after a volunteer experience at Re-Member. Her group does an annual backpack drive, sending out dozens of boxes of school supplies, coats, and other basic-need goods to be distributed across the rez.
A group of MBA students at the University of Illinois were equally inspired during a trip to Re-Member and have since launched their own organization, the Kola Foundation. On March 11, a trailer truck arrived on Pine Ridge with $80,000 of donated goods coordinated by this group. We were able to do a quick interview with the group before opening the doors at Porcupine School for this great event.
Re-Member is fortunate to encounter so many dedicated, interested, and charitable volunteers in our work here on Pine Ridge. We thank those who have already joined us this year, and we look forward to helping you build relationships when you arrive.
So... When ya comin?
