Greetings!

Pilamaya (thank you) to the nearly 1,200 volunteers who joined us on Pine Ridge last year. Believe it or not, we open tomorrow, February 26, 2011 for our 14th season.

Re-Member is able to continue to do the essential work needed here on the reservation only with your help. Your support - in labor, financial and material resources - continues to help the Oyate of Pine Ridge unlike we have ever been able to do so in the past.

Whether you built a deck with Jerry, a wheelchair ramp with Dave, skirted a trailer with Cory or found yourself on a roof with Bryan during our 2010 season, your efforts helped keep a family warmer and safer in the long winter that our friends on Pine Ridge have endured over the past several months.

2011 promises to bring new challenges, and new opportunities. During our "down time" in the off season, we finalized the purchase of our new property in Porcupine. Fortunately, we have fully funded the purchase, thanks in large part to your generous support of our land campaign. We will begin site work in Porcupine this year.

Our staff will be led this season by Jerry, Bryan and Matt running construction crews. Several new local staff members, including Yolanda Swalley, wife of cultural presenter Larry Swalley, will be joining us this season as well.

We look forward to welcoming you back, for our 14th season of building relationships.

So... When ya comin?

Ted Skantze, Director

Updates from the Rez

As we recently informed you, the Oglala Sioux Tribe is collecting tax on our volunteer trip fees. Additionally, all goods sold in our canteen will be subject to a 4% tax. You can read the details in our original message.

During one of Ted's off-season visits to the rez, he visited with Keith Janis who lost his Bombing Range Road residence to a terrible fire only days after our 2010 season ended. View Ted's interview on Facebook.

Paula, our volunteer trip coordinator continues to process reservations for the 2011 season. We alraedy have over 1,000 reservations on the books. Week one brings Saint Anselm College (Manchester, NH) and Northeastern University (Boston, Mass.)

Bryan recently visited the Red Could Renewable Energy Center in Calico, which has fallen victim to significant flooding from spring melting. View Bryan's video on Facebook.

We have a new Flickr photo sharing page, designed to share our photos -- along with yours -- throughout the season ahead. Upload your photos after your trip, and check back often for the latest imagery from the rez.

Our Board of Directors welcomed three new members over the winter as we continue to grow our organization. We extend a warm welcome to Steve Hoogerwerf, Nancy Rottman and Cory True.

Sincerely,
