2011 SEATTLE INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION
|
The fourth annual Seattle International Piano Competition is set, with prizes and performance opportunities awaiting this year's participants. Without specific programming requirements, this two-round competition allows developing artists the opportunity to make a truly personal mark on the concert stage. Round one consists of a CD recording submittal of any repertoire the pianist chooses. If invited to Seattle as a finalist, a competitor may select a short program of solo works that defines one's unique strengths and allows his or her most eloquent artistry to shine through. The application deadline has been extended from May 15 to June 30, 2011.
The competition is open to participants of all ages, with categories for professional, collegiate, amateur, and youth performers. Participants need only prepare up to fifteen minutes of music in the final round to compete for prizes, including a $2,000 prize for the winner of the collegiate and professional divisions. Other prizes, including future performing opportunities and other distinctions will also be distributed. All award details may be found on the website. Finalists perform in Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Music Center, downtown, Seattle.
The date of the final round of the Seattle International Piano Competition will take place on October 22 and 23, 2011 at Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Music Center. Please be sure to postmark your entries by May 15, 2011 to be eligible for participation.

Northwest legend, Peter Mack, presents, " Music from the Twenties and Thirties." By enlightened and entertained by Mack's idiosyncratic style as he takes the audience on a journey of music by composers of war-torn Europe. This exciting event takes place Sunday, May 8 at 3 pm in the auditorium of the Frye Art Museum. Irish pianist, Dr. Peter Mack, has been thrilling audiences in Washington state since he settled here in 1985. He has also performed throughout the United States and Europe, as well as in Australia and the former Soviet Union. He is the winner of the New Orleans, Young Keyboard Artists and Pacific International Piano Competitions. His prize in the Sherman-Clay competition included a Steinway grand piano. Peter Mack is well known for his extensive repertoire, having performed twenty-five concertos with orchestras. A choral scholar at Trinity College Dublin, and a fellow of Trinity College London, he has a doctorate in piano performance from the University of Washington. Dr. Mack is equally in demand as a performer, clinician, convention artist, and teacher. Pupils of Peter Mack are frequent winners of local, national, and international competitions. He is Professor of Piano Performance at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. Dr. Mack is a Steinway artist. "Mack is one of those lucky ones, born with a completely balanced set of talents.
