Politico - featuring Dr. Olson
Dr. Joel Olson was the featured speaker at this year's inaugural Politico, the department seminar organized by and for undergraduate students. Dr. Olson presented information about SB 1070 and the politics surrounding immigration issues in Arizona. His analysis included insight into why racial oppression, rather than class solidarity, is triumphing today, during the worst economic period since the Great Depression. Joel ended his presentation with information about how grassroots citizens are now organizing to resist Arizona's harsh immigration laws. More than 60 students attended the event, forcing a change of venue. The next Politico will feature Dr. Gretchen Gee discussing the intricacies of Russian politics and implications for the contemporary global balance of power. Dr. Gee's presentation is scheduled for Friday, October 1, SBS 213, 1:30-2:30 pm.
