April Meeting Recap
We hope this section will be ongoing in 2011. CAHREP wants to keep those that were absent posted on the good information and great speakers they missed out on :)
Juan Martinez, NAHREP board member and Broker/owner of RE/MAX Executives started our meeting out this month. Gene Lucero then spoke on the importance of FHA in our market. Next our sponsors for this month Sean Moudry, from Keller Williams and Tom Martinez and Jill Cox from First American spoke briefly about the services that they offered catering to the Hispanic market. Our first guest speaker, Rick Garcia HUD director for a six state region, spoke about the sales of HUD homes in the area. He provided a global view of issues affecting affordable and sustainable housing, HUD REO, and Fair Housing Month.
Last was our discussion panel which consisted of Charlene M. Dombrosky, Director or the HUD Denver Single Family Homeownership Center, Debra Green of Realty Exucutives of Aurora, and Nancy Sullivan, Director of HUD's REO Division. Deborah Green gave a presentation on actually selling HUD homes through the new M&M III program.
Thanks to all meeting attendees. For the guests, you will find a link to join CAHREP at www.cahrep.org. We look forward to having you become a member and joining us at future monthly member meetings and mixers to build your network and your business! What to Watch Out for When Buying a Foreclosure: Help Your Clients Know Which to Buy...and Which to Walk By
RISMEDIA, April 7, 2011-The economy is improving overall and, as a result, some bright spots are showing up in the real-estate market. However, the foreclosure spike, which began around the same time the recession did, isn't a distant memory just yet. In many areas, foreclosures are still ha
ppening; in some areas, those numbers have increased. Surprisingly, foreclosures have even encroached into some key cities that were formerly thought to be unshakable real-estate markets - like San Francisco, where foreclosures actually rose in 2010 (including in luxury neighborhoods like Pacific Heights, where a condo that sold in 2007 for $2.3 million recently sold for $1.44 million as a foreclosure). Study Examines the Impact of Homebuyer Education and Counseling on Mortgage Performance
RISMEDIA, April 29, 2011-Potential homeowners who participate in pre-purchase education and counseling programs may be more likely to pay their mortgages on time, although the evidence on this point is not consistent and compelling, according to a study released today by the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). The study also finds that those who participate in default counseling are more likely to have their loans modified.
The study titled, "Homeownership Education and Counseling: Do We Know What Works?", which was conducted by J. Michael Collins and Collin O'Rourke of the PolicyLab Consulting Group and sponsored by MBA's Research Institute for Housing America (RIHA), examines the effectiveness of the predominant types of pre-purchase and post-purchase counseling and education, and discusses recommendations for future studies on the effectiveness of these programs.
