March Meeting Recap
We hope this section will be ongoing in 2011. CAHREP wants to keep those that were absent posted on the good information and great speakers they missed out on :)
Our March meeting was a membership drive sponsored by Wells Fargo Home Mortgage with about 100 people in attendance. CAHREP President Rogelio Rodriguez opened the meeting reporting on the NAHREP Multicultural Conference held in Washington D.C. the week before. He spoke of "The Five-Point Plan - Refocusing the Future of Minority Home Ownership" advocating for diversity in financial services, preserving the important role in secondary mortgage finance, protect consumers and restore market confidence/ The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and mandatory home buyer education for all first time buyers.
Denver Mayor Guillermo (Bill) Vidal then moved the audience with some insights into his personal history, including the fact that he and his brother left Cuba ahead of the rest of his family and some of the challenges the family faced, his aspirations for the city of Denver, and his appreciation for the work of CAHREP members to increase sustainable homeownership among the Latino community.
Board elections were held and all 4 candidates were elected to the CAHREP board of directors for terms of 2 years: David Hays - All Points Home Inspection, Stuart Kanchuger - Wells Fargo Home Mortgage (marketing), John Rocco - Megastar Financial, and Socrates Saldarriaga -Cherry Creek GMAC. Welcome to these members of the board of directors!
Finally, the education portion of the meeting consisted of a specialized lending products panel discussing products and features that can help buyers facing different challenges secure financing. The panelists were Wells Fargo Home Mortgage loan officers Marc Montero, Stacey King, and Esther Talamantes Ontiveros.
Thanks to all meeting attendees. For the guests, you will find a link to join CAHREP at www.cahrep.org. We look forward to having you become a member and joining us at future monthly member meetings and mixers to build your network and your business! New census milestone: Hispanics reach 50 million
WASHINGTON - Hispanics accounted for more than half of the U.S. population increase over the last decade, exceeding estimates in most states as they crossed a new census milestone: 50 million, or 1 in 6 Americans.
Meanwhile, more than 9 million Americans checked two or more race categories on their 2010 census forms, up 32 percent from 2000, a sign of burgeoning multiracial growth in an increasingly minority nation.
The Census Bureau on Thursday released its first set of national-level findings from the 2010 count on race and migration, detailing a decade in which rapid minority growth, aging whites and the housing boom and bust were the predominant story lines.
Analysts said the results confirmed a demographic transformation under way that is upending traditional notions of racial minorities, political swing districts, even city and suburb.

Banks Spruce Up Foreclosures to Boost Sales
RISMEDIA, March 19, 2011-(MCT)-Bill Schramm and Bethany Siwicki scoured property listings for three months before agreeing to see a home in Round Lake Beach, even though its online pictures didn't look promising.
"It looked like a piņata blew up in there," Schramm said. Every room was a different color, and the only way to tell the carpet once had been white was looking at the furniture marks.
But the home they visited bore little resemblance to the pictures. The walls were white, new carpet had been installed, and repairs made. The recently engaged couple immediately submitted an offer and are waiting to close on their first home purchase.
Sprucing up a home to sell it faster and for more money is a strategy frequently advocated by real estate agents. In this case, though, the seller is Wells Fargo Bank, and the home Schramm and Siwicki are buying is a foreclosure.
