| Meet a Member - Lewis & Clark Fort Mandan Foundation |
The mission of the Lewis & Clark Fort Mandan Foundation is to tell the story of the Lewis & Clark Expedition and to reveal a unique sense of place. The Foundation has been telling the story of the expedition for the past 12 years, as well as sharing the stories of Missouri River history and heritage.
Visitors explore the stories of the era of the fur trade, Prince Maximilian and Karl Bodmer, our first farmers, Oscar H. Will Seed Company and more. The Foundation is also now expanding on revealing its sense of place with the Dakota Institute. The Dakota Institute, directed by Clay Jenkinson, will be holding symposia, producing film documentaries and publishing books. The Institute has already held two symposia on Prince Maximilian and Karl Bodmer and has also released its first documentary, "When The Landscape is Quiet Again," about former Governor Art Link's legacy to North Dakota.
The Foundation has been in the community of Washburn for more than 12 years. The community of Washburn has seen many people coming in and visiting local businesses that might not have otherwise stopped. On a larger scale, the Foundation is a part of the North Dakota tourism community with one of the state premiere historic destinations. People from all over the world have visited the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan. The Foundation is proud to share the rich history and heritage of our state on a truly global scale. Learn more about the Lewis & Clark Fort Mandan Foundation by contacting Wendy Spencer at 877-462-8535, 701-462-8535 or visit the website. If you are interested in having your nonprofit featured in an upcoming newsletter, e-mail NDANO. Requests are honored on a first-come, first-served basis.
