| Meet a Member - ArtWise |
ArtWise's mission is to develop and promote children's visual art programs. ArtWise, which will begin its 17th year this July, believes the arts improve people's quality of life and is an integral part of communication between people of all ages and cultures. Its programs are run in cooperation with area elementary schools, local businesses and community organizations in the Grand Forks area. One of ArtWise's goals is to bring a focus on the elementary visual arts to towns outside of Grand Forks. Its annual Art Show now includes student work from the communities of Thompson and Manvel. It supports elementary teacher artists' visits to schools in these towns. The ArtWise annual elementary Art Show is its main program and is a large show. It is a festival of children's paintings, drawings, sculptures, fiber arts, video arts and printmaking held in the spring. Hundreds of people, especially children's families, come to see the children's artwork lining the galleries, watch demonstrations by professional artists and take in children's music and dance performances. Volunteer support for the kids' art show is amazing. The show is produced with hundreds of volunteer hours provided by local firefighters, administrators and staff from 25 area schools, many local businesses and organizations. ArtWise is synonymous with children's visual art in Grand Forks. ArtCamps4Kids, Art by Children Business Lease, Downtown Clay Tiles in Town Square and an annual School Kid's Art Calendar are additional ArtWise programs. Learn more about Artwise by contacting Martha Keifenheim at 701-787-4260 or visit the website. If you are interested in having your nonprofit featured in an upcoming newsletter, e-mail NDANO. Requests are honored on a first-come, first-served basis.
