Conference speaker preview
NDANO is pleased to announce featured speakers and guests for its 2009 Annual Nonprofit Leadership Conference June 2-3 in Fargo.

Focusing on "Nonprofits & Collaboration: Maximizing Impact," NDANO's conference will include an evening social with Peter Hutchinson, president of the Bush Foundation; Randi Ilyse Roth, executive director of the Otto Bremer Foundation; and Kevin Walker, president and CEO of the Northwest Area Foundation.

Larry Stelter, president and CEO of The Stelter Company, will discuss "Discovering the Secret Giver: Ground-breaking Research on the Behavior of Bequest Givers in America" on June 2. The Stelter Company combined forces with the nationally renowned research firm Selzer & Co. Inc. to provide ground-breaking research into who names charities in their wills, when and why. Our discovery? The audience that most gift planners target today may represent only the tip of the iceberg. Our findings call into question common practices among gift planning managers in how they identify prospects, cultivate donors and communicate with them on an ongoing basis. This presentation will provide a summary of the results of this enlightening research and speak to the ways in which nonprofits may need to rethink conventional wisdom and current practices. We'll introduce a new formula for approaching prospects, including targeted marketing strategies, ideas for casting a wider net without busting your budget and insight on how best to measure results.

On June 3, David La Piana, founder and president of La Piana Associates Inc., will speak about "Collaboration and Partnerships for North Dakota's Nonprofit Sector." The current economic crisis has brought nonprofit mergers and other forms of partnership into the spotlight. Many in the nonprofit sector are looking at these forms of strategic restructuring as an economic solution. But nonprofit partnerships should not be viewed as a last ditch survival tactic during an economic downturn; instead, the spectrum of partnerships provides a strategic opportunity for compatible organizations to join forces for greater social impact. During this session:
     · Learn about the practical tools and processes that lead to successful partnerships;
     · Gain a better understanding of the funder role in fostering and supporting partnerships; and
     · Understand what to expect from a partnership and when it is a good strategic choice.

Learn more about the featured speakers on NDANO's website.  NDANO conference sponsors include the Bush Foundation and Impact Foundation.

As a NDANO member, your organization's staff, board members and volunteers may attend at the discounted early bird member rate of $100 per person. Additional details and registration materials will be available in March.

United Way of Dickinson
The United Way of Dickinson's mission is "United, We improve people's lives." The four focus areas of the organization are nurturing youth, strengthening families, supporting self-sufficiency and assisting seniors and the disabled.

The United Way conducts a once-a-year fundraising campaign on behalf of over 20 local nonprofit agencies. Because the United Way conducts the fundraiser, the partner agencies do not have to focus as much on fundraising and are able to spend more time providing services to their clients. In the 46 years since the founding of the United Way of Dickinson, the Dickinson community has invested over $3 million to help those in need.
